Cuerno gets trampled in the Running of the Bulls! Closing Sunday at 905 Juniper

U Restaurants Cuerno eatery will close this Sunday after never achieving the sales figures necessary to remain open. A contemporary Spanish eatery, Cuerno was never the hit that founder Riccardo Ullio had envisioned when he opened it in January of 2008. Located at 905 Juniper in midtown, its sister restaurant Beleza next door will remain open for now but its future is in question by many with Cuerno's closure. The one successful eatery for Ullio appears to be Fritti, still a favorite in Atlanta and thought of by many as having the best pizza in the city. A few doors down, Chocolate Pink Pastry Cafe is open but is for sale. However, if a sale is not made soon, the store may have to go unsold and close! Repeat Atlanta!

What can be said? Atlanta wants chains over trendy.

I live a block away and never went. Every time I looked at the menu and considered dropping in for dinner, I decided otherwise because of the price or required attire. Spur-of-the moment dinners were not welcomed there. Midtown needs neighborhood restaurants on the blocks off of Peachtree. Those type of restaurants are thriving -- pricey, destination restaurants are not.

We don't need EVERY restaurant in the city be the same. This was a high quality restaurant and it is sad to see it go. Unfortunately, in this economy and current (lack of) leadership at city hall, this will not be the last great restaurant to suffer this fate.

i really like Beleza. It's unique. So it will probably close.
