What's That Smell? FUMA & Shisha Opening at Lenox

In a space that once housed Delta Airlines, the hiring centers for both the W Buckhead and St. Regis, and most recently, a teeth whitening salon, Fuma Shisha is preparing to open. What is Fuma & Shisha you ask? Apparently the new retailer is "Your Upscale Smoke Shop and will sell pipes, hookahs, cigars and other tobacco paraphernalia. While their logo and signage just went up and an opening date is unknown, I did notice they do have a message on their window stating "YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER TO ENTER NO EXCEPTIONS". This may be the only store in Lenox, or Phipps, for that matter, with an age requirement. The Tinder Box closed last fall in the lower level near Bloomingdale's, and while I'm not 100% sure, I don't think they had an age requirement. Perhaps it's a law, or just a way of limiting liability. Whatever the case, it's a strange addition for Lenox as I had hope that DeathWatch member Rowdy's closing was a sign of better things to come. Speaking of Buckhead, I noticed they had the cranes going at Streets of Buckhead earlier this week. What's the scoop on that? They can't possibly think they're going to be able to make the project work.

Hey Sydney,

Sorry for the delayed response. I was actually seeing my dentist yesterday whose office is across the street from SOB and was amazed to see a crane move! I asked if the staff had seen any progress but this was all that they had seen. First movement in months. Last I heard Ben Carter needed an additional $200M to keep the project alive. AIS (Atlanta International School) floated the idea of an International District with Consulates and Embassies, not much on that lately though former Mayor of Atlanta and current "Mayor" of Buckhead Sam Massell gave his approval to the idea. I hope to have news in the next few weeks.

Thanks for reading and for the comment.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that they need to run the cranes to keep them in working order. Otherwise the fluids get viscous, gaskets dry & crack, etc.

What is just as revealing is that there's nowhere else for those cranes to go. Somebody's losing money every time the sun rises on that site.

Streets of Buckhead is as clear an illustration that you'll ever see of the Austrian theory of the business cycle. I'm reminded of "A Man In Full" everytime I drive by it.
