UPDATE: Waffle House "Showcase" Location Revealed

While a number of local media have already reported that Waffle House plans to close on a new downtown location next month, no one seemed to be able to identify the exact location. I received a number of inquires from readers and can now, after just a little digging, report the location. Waffle House will convert an existing structure at 135 Andrew Young International Boulevard into its signature Black and Yellow eatery. If memory serves, the building was a gift shop of sorts leading up to and during the Centennial Olympic in 1996. Recently the store sold Atlanta-souvenirs and assorted convenience items.

The building is adjacent to the American Cancer Society and a stone's throw from the Tabernacle music venue. (There's a joke to be made here about post-concert revelers but I'll just leave it alone.) The location is across the street from Centennial Olympic Park and various other tourist attractions such as The Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coca Cola and Philips Arena. Georgia State is not far away, but students already got their very own Waffle House last year with the opening of one at the Parker H. Petit Science Center. Another Waffle House opened at Underground Atlanta and still another opened at Tech Square near Georgia Tech. This may seem like overkill to some, but I recall a time when there were Waffle House locations on both sides of the highway near my house, and both did well for years.

If the closing goes as planned next month, I'm told Waffle House plans to be open by the spring.

Here is a link to the property listing by Colliers International and below is a street view of the exact location.

Well, this is good news then. I was afraid they were going to build a new suburban style restaurant on one of the parking lots. At least this building fronts the street, etc. Anything 24/7 downtown is good to me.

Now if we could just get some cool bars downtown worth going to that aren't ghetto (ew I hate Underground) that would be nice.
