Doc is Drummed Out

A couple weeks ago, Doc Green's Gourmet Salads & Grill closed its Roswell Road location in North Buckhead for "renovations." A word that has become a joke on this site, the restaurant's "renovations" were anything but, as the concept, like others from Big Game Brands ( formerly Raving Brands) were half-baked and not successful. ( Bonehead's and Mama Fu's come to mind) At one point, the chain had over a dozen locations open with "hundreds more in development." Today, four remain in operation locally, and another two in Wichita, Kansas. The location within Perimeter Place in Dunwoody ( ironically catty-corner from Tin Drum) has been listed for sale by the Shumacher Group for months with seemingly little interest. The chain's original location, on Ponce de Leon, was converted to a Chow Baby restaurant last year.

Instead of a renovation of the Doc's office, Tim Drum Asia Cafe will open their seventh area location. With a planned January opening, it will actually be the chain's eighth overall restaurant as the Atlanta-based chain will open at The Summit in Birmingham in a few weeks, its first location outside of Georgia. Tin Drum's other area locations include Atlantic Station, Lindbergh Plaza, Perimeter Place, Cumming, Broad Street and Tech Square. The same owners also operate the Wonderful World Burgers and More, with one location on North Decatur at Emory Village.

The new Tin Drum joins existing eateries Willy's Mexicana Grill, Goldberg's Bagel Company & Deli, and Five Guys, in the Roswell-Wieuca Shopping Center. Additionally, an Arby's is located in an outparcel of the shopping center and a Zaxby's opened across the street from the center earlier this summer.

I like Tin Drum a lot. I think I've only been to a Doc Green's once. Only problem with this move is that Tin Drum should be more popular than Doc Greens's in this space, and the parking lot is already a nightmare during lunch.

You would think that a place that specializes in salads would have good salads. Not the case with Doc Greens.

However, Tin Drum is very good for what it is. Remember when they just had one location at Georgia Tech and people raved about the food? Once they started opening multiple locations, folks began to look at them as a chain and assumed the food wasn't as good but the quality is still high in my opinion.

I don't find Tin drum to be very good. But I am just one voice in the crowd.

Hey Anon,

The first Doc Green's opened on Ponce in early 2005 and was later followed by the Atlantic Station some months later.
