New Details : Antico vs. Fuoco

John DiPalma aka Giovanni Di Palma
Last week I broke news of a  "intellectual property - trademark" lawsuit filed by Giovanni di Palma of Antico Pizza Napoletana against the McDowells of Fuoco di Napoli.  Though it was unclear at the time what possible "intellectual property" di Palma might be referring to, I wasreminded by a reader of the "Antico Express" of 2010.

Lori and Dino McDowell, two of the four persons named in the lawsuit, ran a food truck called Antico Express in late 2010 and early 2011 bringing Antico pies to events around the southeast. The truck was most often found at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The pies were precooked by Antico, frozen, and then heated in the truck to serve. Antico Express offered just two options - Margherita or Pepperoni - available by the slice or pie.

I'm no legal expert, but it would not shock me if di Palma's claim is that the McDowells somehow stole or duplicated a recipe or procedure from Antico.

At the same time, I read all the comments left on this original post and came across an intriguing website: two, actually. The website and blog are run by a woman named Shannon Salvino who claims to be an ex-wife of a man named John diPalma who she asserts is masquerading as Giovanni diPalma of Antico Pizza. She goes on to claim that Johnny, diPalma's "son," is illegally with him and is actually her son from a previous marriage. The whole thing seems very "ripped from the headlines" or Dateline-esque but I gotta say if it's true, diPalma does not know the first thing about keeping a low profile.

What do you think of all this craziness?  Do you think diPalma has legal standing given the McDowells' prior relationship with his pizzeria?  Do you think Giovanni really is John and could be the kidnapper Salvino claims he is? Does all this drama make you want to support places like STG Trattoria and Varasano's Pizzeria, where the excitement comes from the food and not the drama?  Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

This story is old news...like 2 years old. About little Johnny being kidnapped by "John DiPalma". You obviously don't know much about him or his brother who mysteriously appeared at Antico from Florida. Leave it where it came from, 2009. The guy is a con-man and all of Atlanta got suckered in, he is not a certified pizzaiolo by the VPN.

Who cares about all this nonsense? It doesn't matter who this guy really is.

Antico makes great pizzas. So does Fuoco di Napoli. If Antico wasn't worried about Fuoco stealing some of its business it wouldn't have filed this lawsuit.

You should have stopped with "...but it would not shock me if di Palma's claim is that the McDowells somehow stole or duplicated a recipe or procedure from Antico."

After that, It goes off the rails. You get too gossipy. The subject changes from the lawsuit to dirt digging and speculation about di Palma, which makes it look like you are taking sides. Be a news blog OR a gossip blog.

This reads like you broke a big story and wanted to keep riding that wave, so you found some more crap to write about it. They weren't "new details"...a commenter reminded you of a connection from a few years back, and you wrote a "new paragraph" with what you think that may mean.

Damn, the McDowells are just running afoul everyone's IP. Hope they settled that McDonald's lawsuit from way back.

I knew John DiPalma in Florida and that website was completely true. I know his ex wife Shannon Salvino who was looking for John DiPalma and her son for years!!! He was jumping from state to state with their son, going under fake social security numbers, changed his name to Giovanni trying to pretend he is this authentic Italian - this guy is full of shit. He is a lying con man that stole his son from his only mother and I hope he pays for the pain he has given this poor girl. She put up websites and blogs looking for little Johnny and John hired some scumbag celebrity attorney and threatened her with numerous lawsuits using scare tactics and she is currently still trying to see him. Anyone who has sat back and thought John is such a charismatic guy is a friggin' moron who probably walks around like a sucker in life believing every piece of bullshit someone tells you. He is also being sued by someone he ripped off in Florida right now. This man is an AWFUL HUMAN BEING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Johhny DiPalma (A.K.A. Giovanni DiPalma) is an out-and-out con artist, scammer, kidnapper and thief. He's left more people in financial abysses than many Ponzi schemers. He's the worst of the worst.

Couldn't agree with you more. I know him too and is nothing but a con artist.
