Lorton, Virginia-based FIVE GUYS is closing their restaurant on Roswell Road in north Buckhead. According to posted signage, the restaurant, located in the Roswell-Wieuca ShoppingCenter, will close effective August 30th.
The center has seen its fair share of changes in the past few months, as Doc Green's Gourmet Salads & Grill closed and was replaced by Tin Drum Asia Cafe and later, Swirll, a frozen yogurt shop closed. Swirlll had one of the worst restaurant locations ever (on the Wiecua side, hidden from Roswell drivers) and just an OK product, so its closure was far from shocking. Of course Goldberg's is already in the center, and is taking over an adjacent space not to expand, but to relocate offices from inside their West Paces Ferry eatery.
Five Guys closure is not very surprising given both their poor site selection and the proliferation of burger joints in Atlanta. I would not be at all surprised if additional FIVE GUYS closed soon, such as the restaurant at Spire condos on Peachtree in midtown, or the one further up Roswell near Trader Joe's, and especially on Northside Drive at the Tenside project.
Sources tell me there is at least one restaurant interested in the Roswell-Wiecua space once FIVE GUYS closes. Although nothing is set in stone, this potential replacement is a new to market and southern based eatery with a cuisine unlike any currently available in the immediate area.

That sucks. It was actually my favorite burger in that area.
This is actually an excellent location for most concepts based on daytime and residential. The franchisee for this location passed away a few years ago and the children have chosen not to proceed with running burger joints that their father wanted to do.
It is a great location for something other than burgers! A local bistro would be great and would attract many people.
Atlanta has become nothing more than burgers and frozen yogurt...ish!
Oh, what a pity ! We come from France once a year to visit our children in Wieuca, and a visit to Five Guys is always part of the trip. Where shall we go now ?
