Chuy's Second Area Restaurant to Open in Kennesaw

Austin, Texas-based Chuy's plans to open a second Atlanta area location.

The Tex-Mex restaurant plans to build a new restaurant on a vacant parcel to the east of Bahama Breeze, on Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw.  Chuy's opened their first area location last fall in Dunwoody in the former Fire of Brazil, not far from Perimeter Mall.

The company had its eye on at least one other location, on the westside, but reportedly lost out, possibly to what we now know as The Optimist.

Chuy's is not alone in expanding in Kennesaw.

Arena Tavern opened earlier this year on George Busbee Parkway in a former Smokey Bones restaurant, while Smashburger opened an inline location near Town Center Mall. Closer to Kennesaw State University,  Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint and Del Taco both opened new locations on Chastain Road, while more recently, a Taco Bell opened in a former Mrs Winner's on Barrett Lakes Boulevard.

Additionally, I announced last week that a Pollo Tropical would be built on a parcel (close to Chuy's), currently home to an abandoned Bugaboo Creek Steak House.  Jason's Deli is also constructing a new, roughly 5,000-square-foot restaurant near Cobb Place shopping center, off Ernest Barrett Parkway.

A Chuy's representative tells me the hope is to have the new restaurant open September 17, 2013.

Are you a Kennesaw resident excited about all the new development? If you are and or commute to KSU, where do you eat most often now, and what opening are you most excited about?  What does Kennesaw need that is does not already have?

Chuy's will do phenomenal in Kennesaw. They need to be in family friendly areas with their decor and brand personality. I'm not sure an intown location is there demographic...although I know a few Texas die hards that live intown that drive over to the Dunwoody location. Love the chili con queso and chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas.

Hey Billy,

I totally agree, I think Chuy's will do well in Kennesaw. Intown is a tough market for a concept like that and they are able to get more bang for their buck OTP and as you said, feed plenty of families.

Thanks for reading the site and for the comments.

There's also a Chipotle and Panera opening up on Barrett Parkway next to the ginormous new Rooms-to-Go.

Just think in 20 years the ginormous RTG will be a Korean church and the RTG will have moved up the street to Ball Ground. Suburbia at it's finest!

I am VERY happy to see businesses coming to Kennesaw after seeing closure after closure. But this will be very close to On The Border and might not fare so well at that location.

Chuy's may not do as well as speculated since there are quite a few mexican restaurants in the area which have loyal followings, such as Los Reyes, El Nopalito, El Taco Azteca, and of cours On the Border.

Chuy's serves Casa Grande quality food at Chili's prices. It'll do just fine.
