Restoration Hardware Closing in On Buckhead Return

A ginormous Restoration Hardware like this may soon call Buckhead home
Restoration Hardware is getting closer to returning to Buckhead.

The Corte Madera, California-based home furnishings retailer is in the planning and permitting stages for opening their proposed six-story mega store on Peachtree Road in the heart of Buckhead.  The store would be built on a parcel that is home to the abandoned ESPN Zone restaurant which closed in late 2009.

Restoration Hardware closed their longtime Lenox Square location in early 2011 along with four others around the country, and almost immediately spoke of returning to Buckhead.  At Lenox, their lease was up and SIMON had secured Forever 21 to replace them

Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel have both left Lenox Square over the past 24 months with Crate & Barrel already open in its new home, the Shops Around Lenox.  At one point Restoration Hardware was looking into relocating to the former Buckhead Chrysler Plymouth dealership on Piedmont Road, but those plans stalled before they got anywhere.  It was revealed last year year that Restoration Hardware had intentions of opening in the former ESPN Zone when sketches for Buckhead Atlanta included an aerial shot of the shuttered eatery with the name Restoration Hardware on it.  Though not part of the project, Restoration Hardware will surely benefit from Buckhead Atlanta when they are each completed, likely in the first half of 2014.

For now, Restoration Hardware remains accessible to shoppers in Atlanta at their remaining retail store near Perimeter Mall and also via their now 680-page catalog.  Though not set in stone, I have heard that if and when the Buckhead flagship comes to fruition, the Perimeter store would close.

The very large structure outside at shops around Lenox
Is a eye sore in my opinion and completely takes away from the other shops

This will be a nice compliment to the Buckhead Atlanta project and surrounding area.

I saw that the other day. What is it? It looks weird

Heard that the new restoration hardware will be valet parking only. Count me out for shopping there. I hope they leave their other location open for those who don't want to hand their keys over to an attendant.

I went to their location in Houston (the one in the picture) and it was hands down the coolest retail environment I have every been in. It was over the top! I hope ours is half as nice as that place was.

Hmmm, I was thinking that would be a good spot a full Barney's (not just a co-op that used to be in Phipps) store...

@Tres,

Based on what many retail insiders (and bloggers) would consider a fail in Atlanta, I would not expect for Barney's to be in any rush to return to the city with a bigger store. I was at their flagship in Dallas last year, it was empty. A few months later it was announced it would be closing. Atlanta is good to certain brands, Barney's is not one of those.

Thanks as always for reading the blog and for the comments.

RH will be opening its new Buckhead store concept in September. Expect it to be a Very Big Deal. The Perimeter store will indeed be closing, and current staff numbers will be tripling to man the new location.
