Couscous Coming to Dutch Valley

The owners of Perla Taqueria will soon open Couscous, a new Mediterranean restaurant.

Couscous Restaurant will open in place of Amuse! restaurant on Dutch Valley Road, and will offer Mediterranean cuisine.  The restaurant space been the home of a number of restaurants over the years, none of which have been very successful.

Allegro restaurant closed in early 2009 with Amuse! opening in late 2009 and closing this past fall.

Interestingly, Haykel Arfaoui, who at one point served as general manager at Amuse! and later opened Perla, is one of the those involved in the opening of Couscous.

No word on an opening timetable or a menu, but if Couscous is good and more casual than its predecessor, it could fare well.  Local restaurant Mediterranean Grill has a location not far away, but a closer and comparable option could satisfy the lunch needs of many in the area.  The Dutch Valley area is home to both Urban Enterprises and Convention Models & Talent as well as numerous other businesses in addition to residences.

Are you excited about this restaurant opening?  Is the location cursed or will Couscous be a winner? What is your favorite restaurant in the Ansley / Monroe area?

Please weigh in below.

I am glad a seasoned, successful restauranteur is giving this location another try. It's really a cool space, overlooking the midtown skyline as well as the new Piedmont Park expansion. I was an infrequent patron of two two predecessors, and I always felt they both missed the mark by creating a stuffy atmosphere and attempting to offer cuisine that tried to be too sophisticated. If the new owners downscale both the interior design as well as simplifying the menu, they should have a good chance to succeed.

Location are never "cursed", but they can be exploited. I always think of the longtime success of FLOATAWAY CAFE as an ideal example of a restaurant on an industrial dead end street that defies all conventional wisdom of what makes an ideal location. Create the mood and menu, and they will come.
