RaceTrac is Coming to Cumming

Atlanta-based RaceTrac is planning a new location in Cumming.

The new RaceTrac will be at the corner of Peachtree and Ronald Reagan Parkways, across the street from The Collection at Forsyth (formerly The Avenue Forsyth.)  The new RaceTrac will be one of the company's new, larger "RT6K" locations and will offer an expanded beer & wine selection, a greater variety of food options, as well as a Swirl World frozen yogurt installation.

Construction should start in the coming weeks with plans calling for the station to be open in the first quarter of next year.

RaceTrac and Tulsa, Oklahoma-based QuikTrip have each been adding new, next generation locations to metro Atlanta over the past two years or so.   RaceTrac, which had a 75 year head start in building their metro Atlanta network, has been trying to expand ITP, where they lack prime locations, while QT has been adding units largely OTP.

One of this site's most popular, viewed and commented stories was when I broke news of QuikTrip's planned location at the corner of Briarcliff & Clairmont Roads.  A rare exception where QT was able to grow inside the the perimeter, the location replaced an aging grocery store but opened not far from an existing QT.  Both locations are open today and both seemingly do quite well.

Recently, RaceTrac added a new location at Northlake Parkway and Lawrenceville Highway, in addition to locations on Camp Creek Parkway near Camp Creek Marketplace, and another on Old Milton Parkway, near a new shopping center in Alpharetta.  RaceTrac also has new locations under construction on Camp Creek Parkway, closer to the many airport parking lots, and another on Jimmy Carter Boulevard near the shuttered B.J.'s Wholesale.

QuikTrip should open its new "Gen 3" format location on Chamblee Tucker Road late next month, replacing an older, existing location across the street.  Another QuikTrip proposed for the corner of Howell Mill and Defoors Roads on the westside, is allegedly still on the books for QT, but without any firm construction or opening timetable.

Where would you like to see a RaceTrac or QuikTrip open next?  Between Sheetz and WaWa, both out-of -state C-Store operators, which do you think should or would, enter the Atlanta market?  What item would you like to see carried in your neighborhood C-store that isn't?  Please share your thoughts below.

Personally, I would love to have Sheetz come down here. I fell in love with them when they expanded into Greensboro, NC and their food is actually quite good and reasonably priced. Plus the ability to order hot food while you are pumping your gas means that there is not too much of a wait

I do not agree. Sheetz always causes my car to sputter and buck.
