A new restaurant with a familiar sounding name is coming soon to midtown.
Cafe Mezo, unrelated to Cafe Intermezzo, which recently relocated to Peachtree Street in midtown, will soon open on Juniper Street nearby. Cafe Mezo is opening at 794 Juniper Street, near 5th Street, in a space most recently occupied by The Fifth Ivory.
The Fifth Ivory, which opened in early 2012, was a piano bar featuring Southern fare and assorted tapas style offerings. The restaurant apparently closed sometime in September (although its facebook page says they will "reopen tomorrow 4 p.m - 11 p.m.") The Fifth Ivory's website shows a short message that claims they are in fact relocating.
"Our new home is not quite ready and we needed to prepare for the move and as a result we will be temporally closed while we finish the final touches."
Cafe Mezo officially filed articles of incorporation with the City of Atlanta on September 17, with Anar Gafarzada of Alpharetta, Kemal Gazi Karsli of Sugar Hill, and Selim Koyuncu of Alpharetta listed as officers of the corporation. An alcohol license was issued by the City of Atlanta on October 22nd but no other information was located regarding renovation or conceptual plans.
The now remodeled Victorian house where Cafe Mezo will open has been home to a number of failed restaurants over the years including the aforementioned The Fifth Ivory as well as Murphy's Den, Avra Greek Tavern and Cavu Midtown Bistro.

It's Greek food of some kind but "new and different" or something to that effect was what one of the people working on it told me.
Kemal is the Cafe Agora dude.
@Anon RE: Kemal,
Yes, you are right, Kemal previously worked at Cafe Agora Midtown.
Thanks for the comment and for your readership.
Go ahead and add this to the Death Watch.
By the way, restaurants need to cut the crap with the renovation and relocation tap dance. It's utterly ridiculous. Be a man and admit you closed because you didn't work hard enough to succeed. "Renovations?" Please. I have NO idea what the point of this phenomena is.
Speaking of renovations - How's the new management hiring at Modern coming along?
@Anon RE: Modern,
Good one!
I think there was also a restaurant called Salt in that space, too -- just before Avra.
