Food News in Lenox Square + More

Lenox Square has been in the midst of a multi-faceted renovation in anticipation of the upcoming opening of Buckhead Atlanta.

The entire food court (Fashion Cafe) ceiling has been lifted a few feet to provide more natural light and it now also sports a nice, modern, clean design.  In addition to the new look, new casual dining options are also being added.

Freshii, a new-to-the-market healthy fast food eatery, will open their first Atlanta area restaurant in the Fashion Cafe at Lenox early next year.  The restaurant was started in Toronto by Matthew Corrin in 2008, and today has over 70 locations in eight countries.  Freshii's menu consists of  salads, quinoa, spicy lemongrass soup, and the occasional kale and lime smoothie.  Ironically, Freshii is, in a way, the fast casual version of True Food Kitchen, a Phoenix-based full service restaurant that will open at the front of Lenox early next year.

Chipotle Mexican Grill expects to open its new Fashion Cafe location by the end of the month.  Chipotle has an existing Buckhead location at Lenox & Piedmont Roads, and recently opened its first Atlanta area food court location at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The popular burrito joint also recently added new locations to Brookwood Place in south Buckhead, downtown Decatur on West Ponce, and near North Point Mall on Haynes Bridge Road.

Figo Pasta, a concept I was originally informed would be opening in the Fashion Cafe, may no longer be involved in the project.

Sprinkles, which I previously reported would open December 13th, is now not so sure about its opening.  While I have been unable to get a definitive date confirmed, multiple sources close to the construction tell me that the space is about a month away from being done.  A Sprinkles NY-based P.R. rep says the cupcake shop hopes to be open by "mid December," but outside sources say that the opening may not actually occur until after the first of the year.

In other Lenox Square news, Lacoste opened its larger new store today near the front of the mall.

Lenox Sq is doing some good things, but the one thing nobody seems to be doing anything about is traffic around Lenox and on Peachtree in general.

Good lord weekends are intolerable. They need ti evaluate and synce the lights or just shut them off and gi with traffic cops. So much for the Peachtree Rd rework project helping with traffic problems. If anything, It's now worse.

Lacoste so needed to move to a bigger space. Their old store was tiny. Though honestly, I don't comprehend spending $80+ on a polo shirt! Though I'm sure many would question the money I spend on things others may deem frivolous...

How long does it take to do the buildout of a cupcake place? Come on.

As for traffic, my suggestion is they need to change the entry/exits onto Peachtree into just an entry and just an exit. The entry point to the mall would be at Peachtree where the Westin is because the traffic gets way too backed up onto Lenox for those turning in where there is a short gathering lane. The main entrance now would become the exit out of the mall onto Peacthree.

Why won't they build an overpass bridge from Lenox to Phipps Plazza. I think that would help eliminate some of the congestion.

@Boris - Because 1) It's expensive; 2) Anyone with a car will still drive from one mall to the other; and 3) Anyone who doesn't have a car will still walk from one mall to the other.

And for the simple fact that Lenox and Phipps are competitors. They each WANT captured clients without an easy option to get quickly to the other guy's mall. Duh.
