Don't Ship Your Pants! Kmart East Cobb is Closing

Kmart is closing in East Cobb.

Kmart is closing its store at East Cobb Crossing Shopping Center at the intersection of Johnson Ferry and Roswell Roads in East Cobb.  The store, located at 4269 Roswell Road, has closed a few times over the years, most recently as a Sears in late 2011, and before that as a Kmart.  The most recent Kmart incarnation began in early 2012.

The Kmart sits across the street from a heavily renovated Target store.  I visited both the Target and the Kmart this past holiday season, and it was clear the Kmart was on its last leg.  A company representative tells me the store is not continuing the revolving door scenario and will not reopen as a Sears.  The store is due to close for good March 26th.

East Cobb Crossing Shopping Center screams redevelopment with its former Michael's space (they relocated to the former Borders at the Avenue East Cobb), shuttered freestanding TCBY, and the somehow-still-open Radio Shack.  Dick's Sporting Goods had expressed interest in the space that Michael's took in the Avenues, and could perhaps be part of a redevelopment at this center.

Will you or have you shopped kmart's liquidation sale?
What would you like to see open at East Cobb Crossing Shopping Center?

Should the center be demolished for redevelopment?

Please share your thoughts below.

Nooooooo.... whenever I go to my friends place in East Cobb, I stop in here to buy some almost free socks and undershirts, and even $15 sneakers once. They had an aisle of Pringles that expire in a few months for I think 25 cents. It was like a Big Lots with a broader selection in there!

The center should most definitely be demolished. It never fit the demographics of the area. It would be nice to have a suite hotel there. I live in the area and when family comes to town, they have to stay all the way in Perimeter.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually really like Joe Boxer underwear and this would be a fine time to stock up on some new "drawz". Lol

I use to work in that area in 1986-1987 and again in 1991-1992. I remember the Kmart being there.
That shopping center needs a makeover. The Target was put in where Big Star use to be on corner of Roswell & Johnson Ferry.

Great idea Anon @ 11:17. I live in the area and never thought about the fact that there are no hotels there. I guess the issue is that there are limited businesses which is where hotels make their money...

A full-range sporting goods store would crush in that space -- the closest one to that part of East Cobb is up in Roswell.

What is keeping that center alive is the Party City and the Lakeshore Learning (nothing exactly like them close by) the other stuff not so much.

I knew that Kmart was done when it didn't bother to load in anything after Xmas. I mean nothing.

I really hate to hear this. I use to have a K-Mart right near my house (on Buford Hwy) and was very happy to find this K-Mark on Roswell Rd.

I have always been happy with K-Mart's products and prices. I'm sad to see it go and feel bad for their employees.

K-Mart's used to have really good Icee's and popcorn. They had a restaurant when I was a kid and they had good grilled cheese sandwiches and onion rings. And breakfast with Santa. And who can forget the blue light specials? And the Muzak and recorded announcements on tape that was warped and sounded all crazy. The one on Buford Hwy got pretty nasty towards the end. People getting arrested for sex in the bathroom, etc.

You don't want a suites hotel there unless there is a church or school close enough to make it off limits to registered offenders... they have a difficult time finding places to live and it is not uncommon for them to end up having to live in one of the extended stay type places.

Yeah sex offenders should be put to sleep so we don't have to deal with them.
