Bits & Bites

Cook-Out has opened its new location in Rome.  A new location in Carrollton is reportedly "very close" to being official.

Subway has opened a new location at Hammond Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road in the former Cowlicks Yogurt & Floats at the Publix at Perimeter shopping center.

Your Pie, a customizable, personal pizza joint, is now open on West Paces Ferry Road in the former Lime Fresh Mexican Grill / Johnny Rockets.

Cache will be relocating to the upper floor of Lenox Square next to Athleta.  Their current store is being joined with neighboring Kenneth Cole for the huge, two-level, 15,500 square foot TopShop / Topman store opening next spring.  The new Cache replaces Swim 'n Sport.

Kenneth Cole is closing its Lenox Square store but hopes to have a new store open in Atlanta in a year or so.

The old Moxie space in Virginia Highland has been assumed by neighboring restaurant Goin' Coastal.  The restaurant reportedly plans to use the space for private events and larger groups.

Thai eatery Mali is expanding its restaurant into the former Armour & Co. retail storefront at 1198 North Highland Avenue. Mali, currently open around the corner on the side of the Amsterdam Avenue building, will reportedly add more seating and relocate the bar to the front, North Highland portion of the restaurant.

A new BP gas station and convenience store will open soon near the intersection of Bolton Road and Marietta Road.

Guess at Lenox Square is reportedly on the chopping block and could closed by year end.

12 Slices, a pizza shop that opened May 1st in Johns Creek, has closed, reportedly about a week ago.The restaurant, which replaced Jersey Boyz Pizza in the same shopping center, was only open for dinner but seemed to have garnered a decent neighborhood following.  There may have been other forces at play and my friend Lee over at Roots in Alpharetta is preparing a full post, so stay tuned!

Aurum Lounge has closed at Metropolis in midtown.  The club / lounge opened in early 2010 and closed this past week.

Lucky's Burger & Brew has opened at TOWN Brookhaven.  The new restaurant replaces Slack's Hoagie Shack near LA Fitness.

A pair of franchised Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint restaurants are currently listed for sale on the Shumacher Group's website.  Locations at Akers Mill and near KSU on Chastain Road opened in January and August 2012 respectively, and are reportedly both cash positive. Interestingly, according to the provided financials, the Akers Mill locations grossed just shy of $850K in 2013 compared to about $620K in Kennesaw.

A fourth location of Taqueria Tsunami plans to open later this fall at Connexion at Holcomb Bridge.  The recently redeveloped shopping center in Roswell, formerly known as Holcomb Woods Village, spent a reported $2M on upgrades and renovations. Popular local eatery Aqua Blue remains a popular outparcel.  Taqueria Tsunami, a Latin-Asian fusion concept, will likely open in the former Twisted Taco space, and it will be the fourth location in Georgia, joining restaurants in Athens, at the Outlet Shops at Atlanta in Woodstock, and on the square in Marietta.  Taqueria Tsunami's original location in south Buckhead is now home to the popular restaurant, 1Kept.  A Starbucks will reportedly join the center early next year.

A store called "Soma" is opening in suite 5025B (a portion of the former Calvin Klein White Label space, adjacent to Neiman Marcus) at Lenox Square.  This is likely a relocation of Soma Intimates from their current  Phipps Plaza location although no one at the store could confirm this.  The space in Lenox has been operating as bridal shop for the past few weeks.

Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market has opened the first of many planned Atlanta area locations.  Sprouts at The Shoppes at Webb Gin in Snellville opened earlier this morning after hosting a neighborhood preview party yesterday.  Next to open will be a location in Dunwoody on July 16th.  Later in the year, Sprouts plans to open at the new Fuqua project in Peachtree Corners August 20th and in Johns Creek on September 17th.  A previously announced location in Cumming has been pushed to next year. Locations at the Gateway Project in Sandy Springs, in Smyrna and at the Fuqua project on Piedmont are also slated to open next year.

I know you posted about six months ago that Sprouts was supposed to open in Roswell. Just wanted to mention that there is definitely activity at the location. No signage yet as of Sunday, but something is happening at Roswell MarketPlace.

Oliver McMillan would be wise to court Kenneth Cole for Buckhead Atlanta.

As far as Guess, why on earth would Lenox Square not be able to keep a Guess store profitable?

Cookout is also opening next to California Dreaming on Chastain Rd. Just paid $1m for a pad

As far as Lenox goes, I kind of feel like Guess and Kenneth Cole are brands that have become sort of "played out" in recent years, so their departures from Lenox are no surprise.

I think a perfect location for Cookout would be in Chamblee/Brookhaven-ish where that long-abandoned Buddy's food mart is at the corner of Peachtree and Johnson Ferry.

Yeah, what Tres said about Cookout.

Went to the Sprouts grand opening at the Shoppes Webb Gin. You could definitely tell the store will perform above expectations, as the grocery market in that area of Gwinnett was in desperate need of something! Looking forward to shopping in my community and not feeling the need to drive long distances and pay higher prices for the upscale alternative.

Other Anonymous, happy to hear that the Sprouts grand opening went well in your area. Our area is one of the locations that Sprouts will be operating in beginning in 2015. I am really looking forward to it.

Nothing against Kenneth Cole but it is nowhere near on par with the other tenants in the Buckhead Atlanta (gawd I hate that name and typing it) development.

I read a high end luxury real estate and yacht agency is opening there as well.

Your Pie seems to be doing well so far. There's been a good nighttime crowd when I've driven by a few times this week.

Uncle Maddio's locations might get 1x revenue in the sale.

Looking forward to the new BP coming in. The nearby RaceTrac has some of the cheapest gas in the entire metro area (not just ITP) so it will be interesting.

On the other hand, the Circle K that opened a while back on Chattahoochee has ridiculously priced gas. The "regular" price on the sign is maybe 20 cents higher than RaceTrac which is a little steep but not horrible. However, premium is 70 cents higher still! At almost anyplace else, it's a 40 cent difference.

I will say the Circle K store is much nicer than RaceTrac and I've never been approached by someone with some sob story asking for money as has happened to me repeatedly while gassing up at RaceTrac.

I'm being optimistic and hoping this new BP can be a little bit of the best of both worlds.
