BrandsMart a Bust in Buford

BrandsMart's Doraville location

BrandsMart USA will close its Buford location within the next 60 days. The giant electronics retailer opened its 118,000 square foot store on Buford Drive in 2009 near CoolRay Field, home of the Gwinnett Braves.   The store is located off exit 115 of I-85, the same exit as Mall of Georgia.

At its height, the Hollywood, Florida-based retailer operated four stores in Georgia.  Their Kennesaw store closed earlier this year and was then purchased by Kennesaw State University for just under $10 million.  KSU's plans for the 17 acre, 113,000+ square foot building are said to include a new student health center, additional laboratory space for Kennesaw State's Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education, a new marching band program and storage.

There will reportedly be no "liquidation sales" at the Buford store, but there will be "deals" to be had on floor models, assorted fixtures and other inventory.  These sales will reportedly begin in mid-August.

BrandsMart stores in Stockbridge and Doraville will remain open.

What do you think should be done with the building once BrandsMart leaves?  Where do you buy your consumer electronics?  What retailer would you like to see open in Buford and or at Mall of Georgia?

Please share your thoughts below.

BrandSmart can be a difficult place to shop, it is extremely noisy, has annoying sales people, and little info on their products. It also doesn't help that their website offers little help in determining if they have something you are looking for. The store seems to be oriented toward lower income impulse shoppers, who are harder to find in this economy. As with most other big box stores, this will stay empty...

I don't think Brandsmart is long for this world.
I'd wouldn't wager on it, but I'd guess that Stockbridge closes this year, Doraville sometime in 2015.

The Doraville location can be confusing to get into....great visibility from 285 though. I was impressed that they had so much more in stock than Best Buy. Surprised some locations are closing.

IMO, BrandsMart should be required to demolish the building if the land is not sold in a reasonable amount if time. This is one of the most hideous looking storefronts I have ever seen; what an eyesore it is! I think a hotel should be built there. The area around MOG / G Braves needs hotel rooms.

Whole Foods Market would be perfect for this environmentally friendly building!

Ha! Guess the Internet is a fad too. LOL since it's 2018 and both are still open.
