Illegal Food Coming to Virginia Highland

Popular pop-up finds permanent home in Virginia Highland
1044 Greenwood Avenue will soon be the new home of Illegal Food.  Partners Steven Lingenfelter, Laurie Dominguez and Didier Stahl secured the space late last week following the closure of Bar Meatball.  Bar Meatball only lasted about seven months while its predecessor Pozole, a Mexican eatery, lasted eight years.

Illegal Food serves a variety of burgers, BBQ, sides and other casual fare so good, it should be illegal.  The new location will also have a full bar.

The owners of Illegal Food have no plans for any serious renovations given the "turnkey" nature of the building.  The owners of Bar Meatball previously performed an extensive renovation adding plenty of white subway tile and updates to the dining room, bar and kitchen.

Illegal Food operated for about a year out of the Joystick Gamebar on Edgewood Avenue, but was forced out this past August.

Sources say Illegal Foods hopes to have its new, permanent home open by early-to-mid November.

Excellent news! Got to try their tasty tidbits at the Taste of the Old 4th Ward. Glad that they'll be close.

As a local, this is HUGE. Could not have been a better replacement to move into that space. I'm still kind of in disbelief.
