King George Tavern Preparing Its Palace For The People of Dunwoody

Dunwoody Restaurant Group adding new concept

Dunwoody-based Dunwoody Restaurant Group plans to open its  eighth concept late this month in Dunwoody.  The new restaurant, The King George Tavern, will open on Chamblee Dunwoody Road across from the Kroger-anchored Georgetown Shopping Center. The small center where King George is opening is already home to Subway and Marco's Pizza.

The King George Tavern, like other concepts in the group, will feature classic "English pub fare"  in a casual and inviting atmosphere.  A full beer and wine list will also be available.

Additionally, as is the case as most of the Dunwoody Restaurant Group concepts, The King George features a red London-style phone booth outside the restaurant.  (The red phone booth seems to be a theme for the group as it appears multiple times on the group's website.)

Group owner Huw Thomas already operates two restaurants in Dunwoody, Ye Olde Dunwoody Tavern on Chamblee Dunwoody Road and O'Brian's Tavern on Mount Vernon Road. Thomas also operates The Royal Oak Pub and The Ship & Anchor Pub in Sandy Springs, in addition to The Bat & Ball Pub in Brookhaven and The Iron Horse Tavern in Norcross.

Interestingly, The Penny Farthing Tavern, the group's only out of state concept, is not in a nearby southern state, but is instead in Salinas, California.

The King George has been in the works for months and is planning to be open by the end of October / early November.

Is this technically the eighth concept or the same restaurant with a different name? I've been to the Tavern & OBriens and they are very similar (which is not a bad thing, but what I call separate concepts).

Maybe I've just gone to the wrong restaurant in this group, but I was disappointed at the lack of English/British beers. Sure, they had Bass, but no Sam Smith's, London's, etc. Mostly the same old undrinkable American beers like Bud Light.

They used to have a great burger " The Dunwoody Doozie" but it is now just as average as all the rest of the inconsistent food. And for some reason they refuse to carry Red Bull. A shame, as this Dunwoody resident would eat there often
