Bits & Bites

Garrett Popcorn opened its first Atlanta area location just before Thanksgiving last week and the store is doing brisk business.  Lines are often at least five or six deep.

Buckhead Bottle Bar, which closed at its Buckhead address this past summer, will soon reopen in midtown. Originally said to be opening under the "Bottle Bar & Bistro" moniker, the restaurant will instead be known as "TIME."  Time opens on Juniper Street in place of the former Ludacris co-owned eatery Straits.

A new Bojangles' opens today in Commerce.

Sportsline Bar & Grille on Windy Hill Road in Marietta has closed. Before Sportsline, the space was home to Sidelines Bar & Grill, and before that, it was a location of Studebaker's Nightclub.

Luckie Marietta District restaurant and bar STATS remains closed following  "a small, contained hood fire" on September 18th.  STATS was supposedly slated to reopen "a couple weeks" after the incident but that "couple weeks" is still the verbiage provided when inquiring about its reopening.

Once popular East Atlanta gay bar Cockpit has closed. Gravy Kitchen & Bar will open in its place in the coming months.

My friends at The Carrollton Menu reported earlier this week that Smallcakes in Villa Rica has closed.  The Kansas City-based chain has reportedly been struggling overall, but surprisingly still continues to sign up new franchisees.   Smallcakes closed its Buckhead location on Peachtree Road last June, but still has nearly 20 locations in Georgia.  The newest Smallcakes in Atlanta opened last week at the Village at Druid Hills.  The relatively new center is at the corner of North Druid Hills and Briarcliff Roads and is also home to Willy's Mexicana Grill, Tin Drum Asiacafe, Newk's and a few other businesses.

The boutique space formerly occupied by Meringue on North Highland in Morningside will soon reopen as Sorelle.  The new boutique shares some of the same ownership as Meringue and plans to open in less than two weeks.

Goodwill of North Georgia plans to open its new retail store and donation center on Piedmont Road tomorrow, December 4th.  The new store is located adjacent to I-85 and replaces the former midtown antique market.

Southern Proper Hospitality opened its new restaurant, The Southern Gentleman yesterday in Buckhead Atlanta. The southern eatery joins sibling eatery Gypsy Kitchen in the new Buckhead development.  With luck, Southern Gentleman (which shares a kitchen with Gypsy Kitchen) will be better than its sibling concept.  I've heard some of the worst possible (food) reviews from essentially everyone I know who has dined at Gypsy Kitchen since its October opening.  If you asked me, these guys should stick to what they do best: cheap tacos and beer at their first concept, Tin Lizzy's.

@Anon,

The new Garrett Popcorn opened at Lenox Square near Bloomingdale's and across from California Pizza Kitchen.

Do you know if/when Basil's will reopen?

@Sarah RE: Basil's,

Basil's will reportedly reopen sometime in the spring. The reopening will coincide with their 25th anniversary celebration.

Thanks for your readership and for your comments.
