Masti Indian Wants to Bring the Fun to Toco Hills

New Indian restaurant coming to Toco Hills

Ricky Walia, managing director of Cafe Bombay Indian Bistro, has leased the former Osteria Cibo Rustico in Toco Hills Promenade.

Osteria Cibo Rustico opened in place of Mirko Pasta at Toco Hills Promenade in November, 2013. The restaurant closed this past October after less than a year in business.  The space was reportedly considered by a number of restaurants, but Walia was able to make the deal happen.

(Sources say that both Bhojanic and NaanStop, two other local Indian restaurants, have previously looked at space in Toco Hills Promenade.)

Walia plans to open "Masti - Fun Indian Street Eats" in early March.  Masti will be similar to Decatur's Chai Pani and offer a variety of Indian street food in a modern, colorful, yet  approachable environment.  Masti translates to "fun" in Hindi.

Cafe Bombay, located on Briarcliff Road near Target, has been a popular Indian eatery since its inception in 2004.   According to a recently installed billboard on I-85, Cafe Bombay is "Rated #1 Indian Restaurant in Atlanta."

Prior to opening Cafe Bombay in 2004, Walia and his parents operated another Indian eatery in Tucker.  All told, the Walia's have been in the Indian restaurant business for over 25 years.  In addition to Cafe Bombay, the Walia's operate "CB Catering," one of the most popular Indian caterers in the country.      The restaurant and catering business are included in "Walia Hospitality Group."

At roughly 2,500 square feet, Masti will be slightly smaller than Cafe Bombay.

Are you excited about the opening of Masti? Where is your favorite place for Indian food? What dish must Masti serve?

Please share your thoughts below.

Apparently Touch of India (in Toco Hills Promenade for eons) closed some time ago and I hadn't noticed.

Healthy is the key to success in this location. I hope they heed this advice. It's actually most authentic in this cuisine to be both healthy and super tasty, so if they are worth their salt they will bring this spin to many of the dishes they present. Great grilled meats, veg dishes with fresh cilantro chutnies, choles and daals, good soup.

Women drive the dinner choices, and we want this today. It's seriously what makes a difference these days. It's why, as much as we all love pasta, all the pasta places are shuttering.

An Indian restaurant would do well in East Cobb...there are no Indian restaurants anywhere in East Cobb. Someone could do very well opening around Johnson Ferry/Roswell Rd. The closest Indian Restaurant is the newly opened Biryani Pointe in Sandy Springs. Everytime I go, the place is packed...The newly opened Seven Hens (in the same center) is always dead though...I think the concept is weak and it is too expensive. Just my opinion though.

I won't eat there because they advertise on a billboard. Because of the Georgia Legislature passing Billboard legislation that allows billboard owners to clear any tree within 500 feet of the billboard these things are destructive to our community.

a neighborhood restaurant should be more respectful.

Interesting take on Bill Board advertising. I’m not so sure I disagree with you, but wonder if the local business owner actually makes the connection. Maybe an effort to let them know via social media or old fashioned snail mail might have a positive impact and eliminate these eyesores.

Hey Anonymous,

you should really stick it to any restaurant with any kind of paved footprint or parking lot.

All of Toco Hills used to be farmland. The audacity of all of those businesses to defile it!

Hello anonymous, everything is great in moderation, including environmentalism. I am a big fan of environmentalism, however within reason. Your analogy about tree clearing for the billboard doesn't make sense. What do you think was on the very land your house is sitting on?it was either forest or farmland… same thing with your beloved whole foods, et Al…

You all need to read up on the billboard legislation. Its not just enviroƱmentalism it's an eyesore. You can't plant a street tree for 500 feet along the street where they are. At least a building some one lives shops or works in. A billboard ? No. I had less problems with them before the 500 feet no tree rule. But thats our dumbass or corrupt Georgia state legislature

Maybe fads and lifestyle changes ebb the popularity of pasta joints but they are not all shuttering, thank goodness. Figo, Mirko (in the Toco Hills Promenade!!!) Classics like Alfredo's and Eats have been around for ages...

Went to Masti's last week and ordered the lunch special Thali, priced at $9.99. When I returned to my office, I noticed my receipt had an additional $2.25 unexplained charge. I telephoned the restaurant immediately and inquired what was the charge for and was informed that they charge the extra funds because I ordered carry-out. When I asked if this charge was posted in the restaurant, I was told No. When I asked if this charge was posted on their menu, I was again told No. When I asked why didn't they tell me this when going over the menu when I ordered? No response. I explained to the person on the telephone that this was fraudulent practice and that they can't charge you for something they do not have posted or inform the customer in advance. The person on the telephone began berating me and telling me that he knew the law and it wasn't against the law to charge this fee. He went on to use foul language and told me that if I wanted my F _ _ _ _ _ _ g money back I should come and get it, and to NEVER STEP FOOT in their restaurant again. Needless to say, I doubt that Masti, with all the wonderful reviews they have will last in Toco Hills. You want to compare them to Bombay, no way! The difference between Masti and Bombay is Ricky at Bombay is a gentlemen and treats all of their customers with "respect". I have known Bombay when it was on Lavista Road - more than 17 years and never saw or experienced anything like the folks at Masti. ATTENTION - Customers, beware, if you order from Masti, they are performing illegal practices charging for take out containers! Please join me and contact the local authorities to stop this illegal practice!
