Bits & Bites

The new Sprouts Farmers Market in Smyrna has set June 10th for its grand opening.  Dates have not yet been announced for Sprouts stores coming soon to Morningside, Roswell, Sandy Springs or East Cobb. The Phoenix, Arizona-based natural foods grocer opened four locations in metro Atlanta last year, and added a fifth earlier this year.
Cache is actively closing their store on the upper level of Lenox Square.  The store has been open less than a year, after having relocated from the lower level where it made way for the new Topshop / Topman store.  Cache as a company filed bankruptcy and is closing all of their stores.

Shannon Wilson, the former head designer of lululemon athletica (and wife of Lululemon’s billionaire founder Chip Wilson), and her son  J.J. Wilson have started a lifestyle brand "designed for those whose busy lives don’t allow them the luxury to slow down."  Kit & Ace, seems to offer items similar to James Perse and Splendid, with a heavy emphasis on cashmere and comfort. The Vancouver-based company only has a handful of stores open this far: five in Canada, and one each in San Francisco and New York.

A onetime Eckerd turned Rite Aid will soon reopen as a Dollar Tree.  At the corner of Russell Road and Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, the nearly 10,000 square foot freestanding building was built in 1995 and was converted to a Rite Aid in 2007.  Dollar stores have often proven to be great replacements for former drugstores such as this.

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, the new Fado Irish Pub opened this past weekend in Midtown.  Located at the corner of Peachtree and 8th Streets, Fado replaced the short-lived La Tagliatella Italian restaurant in the lobby level of the Metropolis.

In case you missed it, The Cook's Warehouse is closing their store on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven when their lease expires on March 31st. Sherlock's, purveyors of fine wines, spirits and beers, shares the space with Cook's Warehouse, and is reportedly staying put in a portion of the space. Cook's Warehouse is functioning as a clearance center of sorts having been sent sale / clearance merchandise from other stores to liquidate.  The main contributing factor in closing the store was said to be parking issues.  Mary Moore, founder of The Cook's Warehouse, is reportedly "actively seeking a new location" for her business in Brookhaven, but has thus far been unsuccessful in locating a space that meets her needs.

Pollo Tropical plans to open its new "Big Blue" location in Austell this Friday, March 20th.  The new location is in an outparcel of Brookwood Square Shopping Center near the intersection of East-West Connector and Brookwood Drive.

A new Value Place hotel is nearing completion on Dresden Drive, just off I-85 in Chamblee.  According to the property's website, the new 124 room hotel is accepting reservations for stays after May 9th.   The Chamblee Value Place marks the chain's ninth property in Georgia.  I originally reported this project in late 2013.

The restaurant formerly known as Makara's in Sandy Springs has reopened as Sinbad's in Marietta.  Makara's closed its freestanding restaurant near the corner of Johnson Ferry and Roswell Roads last March promising to reopen "soon" near Windy Hill.  The restaurant, which was a former Church's Chicken, was forced to close to make way for the new Sandy Springs City Center project that will include the city's new City Hall.  Sinbad's opened recently and is reportedly much larger than the original location but still offers the great Mediterranean fare patrons came to love.

The second Atlanta Braves All Star Grill opens this Friday March 20th. The new location opens adjacent to Meehan's Public House at 200 Peachtree Street.  The original Atlanta Braves All Star Grill opened in 2013 on Concourse D of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  A third location originally proposed for Avalon in Alpharetta has reportedly been shelved for now.

Where is Sinbad's? Is it in the shopping center on Windy Hill near Powers Ferry (w/ Fuddruckers, Barkers, Subway, Post Office, etc)?

Hello, do you know if the East Cobb Pollo Tropical plans to open as a new "Big Blue"? Thanks

@Anon,

As far as I know there is nothing preventing it as there was in Johns Creek so I would say yes. If not a standard "Big Blue," a modified version for sure. East Cobb will definitely look more like Johns Creek and Austell than Akers Mill or Cumming.

Thanks for your comments and readership.

There are 91 Kit and Ace stores either in either confirmed or in planning with a heavy emphasis on Australia. There will be at Atlanta "shop" open by November 1st.

Shop=in a mall
