Sprouts Farmers Market to Anchor New Decatur Project

Grocery store continues Atlanta expansion

Phoenix, Arizona-based Sprouts Farmers Market will anchor the retail portion of the new Decatur Crossing project near Decatur according to source familiar with the plans.  The center, located at the corner of Scott Boulevard and North Decatur Road, is being built on the site of the former Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, as well as replacing greenspace and other smaller structures.

In addition to the Sprouts, the center will also reportedly be home to a number of restaurants, retail shops and a bank.

Decatur Crossing is located across North Decatur Road from Suburban Plaza.  Built in 1959, Suburban Plaza is considered by many as the first shopping center in metro Atlanta. Property owner Selig Properties is performing a significant renovation that is bringing a number of new retailers to the area.  Walmart Supercenter, HomeGoods, Jo-Ann fabric and craft store, ROSS, Half Price Books, LA Fitness and Starbucks are all slated to open in the center in the coming months. Much to the dismay of area residents, Walmart, the center's new anchor, is reportedly on track to open by the middle of next month.

Many in the neighborhood, myself included, had hoped that the Decatur Crossing project might include a Whole Foods Market or even their new 365 by Whole Foods Market stores. Alas, a deal with Whole Foods, while reportedly once in the works, never came to fruition.

Since entering the metro Atlanta market in 2014, Sprouts has opened eight stores with at least four more coming soon. New Sprouts locations are scheduled to open in East Cobb and "Morningside Heights" early next year.  Another location is on the books for Duluth later in the year.  Sprouts is reportedly also looking to open a new store in Lexington Park in Peachtree City.

The midtown, Decatur, Duluth and existing Peachtree Corners locations are all part of Atlanta-based Fuqua Development projects.

Are you excited for a Sprouts Farmers Market coming to Decatur Crossing?  What are your thoughts on Sprouts compared to other markets?  What retail shops or restaurants would you like to see open as part of Decatur Crossing?

I live within reasonable walking distance of both these new developments and, aside from Walmart, this is super exciting! I didn't know a bookstore was part of the plan. Cool!

No worries! SPROUTS is a far better fit than Whole Foods. FAB news.

"Morningside Heights" won't open until next year? Looks ready to open next week, but the flimsy Fuqua-style apartments surrounding it must be running behind.

I've been to to the Sprouts in Johns Creek in a few Staurday mornings and the place is deserted. I wonder how the local stores are performing.

WTF is reasonable walking distance? You can either walk there without it being an epic time sink or not. Nine times out of ten I bet you drive. But you'll feel extra smug that one time you don't.

Anonymous #1 here. Jeez, Anon #4, literally who peed in your Cheerios? Don't even worry about me or what I do or the fact that I'd try to walk there because everyone's always up on that walkability and it would literally just be nice to have something at all to walk to that isn't Melton's or Pet Supermarket. I'm not one of those horrifically smug ~everyone should get rid of their cars and walk or bike everywhere la dee da~ people because I know that's unrealistic in almost every case, but it sure will be nice to have something so close at hand.

Have an awesome weekend, if you're somehow able to still feel positive emotions anymore. :)

As an organic grower that lives in the area, I can tell you that Sprouts is just as much as a "farmers market" as Dekalb Farmers Market on Ponce. They do not deal with local growers at all. Won't even return a call or email inquiry. Just an FYI.

Hmm, Walmart attracts cheap crowd. what a disaster this area will turn out to be with traffic & shop lifters.

If traffic and shoplifting become a problem, it will be caused by your own neighbors. It's not like people have to travel a long way to find a Wal-Mart.

Exactly how does a small grocery store, over 700 apartment units in two large apartment buildings, a few restaurants, and several concrete parking garages benefit our neighborhood? This as opposed to 32 single family homes and hundreds of trees that are there now. Exactly how does more apartment buildings and more traffic benefit DeKalb County? This area is already a traffic nightmare with no hope for mass transit in the near future. The developer is not even putting in turn lanes on Scott Blvd to get traffic into this massive development. Walkable? Look at the Wallmart across the street. It was build about 15 feet above grade, with a set of concrete stairs leading up to this huge structure.

Several years ago they put up a Walmart off of Howell Mill Road. I had a friend that lived there and ended up moving afterwards because of it. She said, "Everything seemed fine at first, and then after 6 months, there was a traffic explosion."
An earlier commenter was right. I have a feeling its going to get bad.

Working at Sprouts is great low prices on produce, organic products at inexpensive prices. Walmart is too cheap and brings the wrong crowd to Decatur area. 365 WholeFoods store coming to former Nalley dealership. Everything will be ok
