Mangia! Marcello's Moving into Emory Point

Locally owned Italian restaurant coming to Emory Point.

Marcello's, a Buckhead area favorite for decades, is bringing its authentic Italian fare to the Emory area. Marcello's has leased the former La Tagliatella at Emory Point and hopes to have the restaurant open sometime in February.  The 4,400 square foot restaurant is adjacent to Fresh to Order on Clifton Road.

La Tagliatella closed at Emory Point in December 2014, less than two years after opening.  La Tagliatella, part of Poland based AmRest, has already closed its midtown location, which enjoyed an even shorter life.

Bothers Julian and Marcello Najm, owners of Marcello's, surely got a better deal than they could have from a new development, and are walking into a fully built-out restaurant.  The Najms are renovating the space to customize it and give it more character than before.

The original Marcello's opened in 1984.  Today, what had become two separate storefronts, "Buckhead Italian Market," and a separate bakery, are under one, approximately 2,400 square foot roof at Tuxedo Festival near Chastain Park.

Marcello's features various brick oven pizzas as well as a classic Italian menu that includes dishes like Veal Piccata, Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Parmigiana.

Are you excited to see Marcello's expand? Do you think the local Marcello's will succeed where the chain La Tagliatella failed? What is your favorite Italian restaurant?    What would you like to see replace the shuttered Bonefish Grill at Emory Point?

Please share your thoughts below.

I'd love to see Todd Ginsberg come up with a sister concept of The General Muir for the Bonefish space. I do like Bonefish - I think it's one of the better chains out there, but never thought it was a good fit for the space. Speaking of Bonefish, any idea what's going on with the Akers Mill Bonefish. Haven't seen any work start yet. Figured they'd want it done by the time the Braves come to Cobb.

In Buckhead, Mirko is way better than Marcello. Every time I've gone to Marcellos I had great expectations and hopes however every time it turned out just below mediocre at best. Foods laden with salt and overspiced and prepared days and weeks in advanced and warmed up. Mirko actually in their original Buckhead location is as authentic as can be. It is overall a better Italian choice with foods that are more naturally prepared, fresh to order, with simplicity and care. Overall a better value for your money and the most fantastic atmosphere. I know Figo is the former partner; I really wish they would close down Figo in perimeter and open Mirko in its place, or just open Mirko on it's own somewhere in the perimeter and organically Figo will end up closing. A good location for Marco would be the shops at Brookkeigh at Johnson ferry in Brookhaven. The Dove via Italian eating market and for metal place is a big joke, it should be added to the death lis The Dove via Italian eating market and for metal place is a big joke, it should be added to the death watch.
