Existing Brookhaven hotel to be re-flagged.
The Holiday Inn hotel on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, just off I-285 will soon change names. DoubleTree by Hilton, a full-service hotel chain, will replace what is currently a limited-service Holiday Inn hotel.
(A proposal for a new Holiday Inn, literally across the street from the existing property, but in Chamblee, rather than Brookhaven, has been met with fierce neighborhood opposition.)
The 250-room Holiday Inn Atlanta-Perimeter/Dunwoody (located in the City of Brookhaven) was built in 1985 and received its most recent renovation in early 2013.
Sources indicate the hotel will undergo a multi- million dollar renovation this November (historically a slow period for area hotels). The hotel will reportedly remain open closed during the renovation, with plans to reopen by late March April 2017.
The Holiday Inn was recently purchased by Denver, Colorado-based Sage Hospitality, who currently operates four other hotels in metro Atlanta.
(Sage had previously been in talks to convert the property into a metro Atlanta's first Delta Hotels & Resorts hotel, but later opted for the DoubleTree branding. Delta was started in Canada in 1962, and was acquired by Marriott International early last year.)
Sage's metro holdings include the Courtyard Atlanta Marietta/I-75 North, Courtyard Atlanta Norcross/Peachtree Corners, Courtyard Atlanta/Marietta Windy Hill and Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Perimeter Center.
Brands Sage works with, according to the firm's website, are Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and Starwood. Noticeably missing is IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) whose North American headquarters are one exit away in Dunwoody near Perimeter Mall.
Sage operates or has in development close to 80 properties in 19 states and Washington D.C. Of those hotels, only one other (aside from the Brookhaven property) is under the IHG umbrella: Holiday Inn Express Hauppauge-Long Island in New York.
This conversion is at least the fourth in metro Atlanta in the past few years where a Holiday Inn brand was ditched in favor of another brand.
The former Holiday Inn Express on Pharr Road in Buckhead is today flagged as a Quality Suites. The former Holiday Inn on Clairemont Avenue in Decatur is today flagged as a Courtyard by Marriott. The former Holiday Inn Gwinnett on Pleasant Hill Road today operates as a Wyndham Garden hotel. Holiday Inn also used to be the flag at the current Ramada Plaza hotel on Capitol Avenue, between Turner Field and the state Capital.
According to the Hilton website, there are currently about 375 DoubleTree hotels in the world. The brand is represented locally by nine hotels including properties in Buckhead, Tucker, Downtown, Alpharetta and near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
In 2008, David Marvin's Legacy Property Group opened a 183 room DoubleTree Hotel in a renovated Radisson Hotel on LaVista Road at I-285. A few years ago the former Holiday Inn Atlanta-Central on North Druid Hills Road near I-85 was renovated and reflagged the DoubleTree Atlanta North Druid Hills-Emory Area.

Cheers to Chamblee residents getting upset over a height difference of 22 feet. Dunwoody just approved a building in the Perimeter Mall parking lot voting 6-1 to change the zoning from 2 stories 35 feet to 20 stories 300 feet. (Taller than the state Farm building) IN the MIDDLE OF THE PARKING LOT! LOL my how neighborhood opinions change I guess just a few miles away.
Much different neighborhood, single family homes in Brookhaven, Mostly commercial in Sandy Springs
Smart move to forego the Delta branded hotel in Atlanta... too much confusion regarding the name.
Hilton should look at another hotel near Hammond & P'tree Dunwoody. With State Farm expanding and Mercedes Benz not far away a hotel attached to State Farm would do well.
Glad I do not have to drive on 285
