Flying Biscuit Marks First Departure From Buckhead Center

Breakfast eatery shutters

The Flying Biscuit Cafe in Paces Ferry Plaza has closed.  According to signage on the restaurant's exterior door, the business closed as of August 25th.  The 3,000 square foot restaurant and 1,000 square foot auxiliary space were both being cleared earlier today.

The signage on the door also indicated that the restaurant would be "moving to a new location in a nearby neighborhood."  "We're relocating... but we don't know where yet."  The same sign invited patrons to visit "our other Buckhead locations in Brookhaven (TOWN Brookhaven) and Terminus" (Terminus 100 in Buckhead).
Following the closure, the Atlanta-based chain has nine locations in metro Atlanta.

Jeff Dauler, then of Q100 (now of Star 94.1), partnered with George McKerrow, Jr., founder of LongHorn Steakhouse and co-founder and CEO of Ted's Montana Grill and John Slocum, founder of Slocum's Tavern & Grille to open both the Paces Ferry Plaza and Terminus Flying Biscuit restaurants in 2007.  (Sources indicate that the two restaurants which had been for sale for years, are now controlled by new owners.)

Flying Biscuit's closure, while reportedly not advertised in advance, is not a complete shock.

As I was first to report early last month, a new 365 by Whole Foods Market is destined for the center.  Slated to open "in 2018," the nearly 30,000 square foot store will likely consume much of the current center.

Repeated calls to the property's ownership company, Regency Centers, have gone unanswered but this is likely only the first of many closures/relocations.   Paces Ferry Plaza, situated at the corner of Northside Parkway & West Paces Ferry Road, is also home to longstanding pizza joint Pero's (in business since 1969) as well as Smith Ace Hardware, Woo Skincare & Cosmetics and Caribou Coffee.  The center is also home to freestanding restaurants Houston's and Blue Ridge Grill, and a host of other tenants.

Are you sad to see Flying Biscuit close?  Where do you think they should relocate nearby?  Are you excited about the new 365 by Whole Foods Market?

Please share your thoughts below.

A classic example of taking a great original concept and screwing it up via franchising.

What does franchising have to do with this article? 365 whole foods is not a franchise. Flying Biscuit can move to the Smyrna, Vinings area near the new Braves stadium if they want to stay busy.

I went to dinner shortly after they opened. It was such a disaster that I never went back. As long as Houston's and Pero's are still around, that's enough for me.
