[EXCLUSIVE] Bad Daddy's Burger Bar Bound for Chamblee

Burger joint joins new mixed use development.

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, a growing burger chain will open its first Atlanta area restaurant later this year in Chamblee. The new restaurant will be located in Parkview on Peachtree, the new mixed use development currently under construction on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Bad Daddy's is a casual restaurant, similar in some ways to Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews, and offers a variety of burgers and non-burgers, along with assorted salads, sides and adult beverages.

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar first opened in Charlotte, N.C. in 2007 and now franchises and licenses 20 Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar restaurants in three states: North Carolina, South Carolina and Colorado.  In 2015, Bad Daddy's became a wholly owned subsidiary of Golden, Colorado based Good Times Restaurants Inc.  Good Times, which is publicly traded (NASDAQ: GTIM), operates 37 Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard between Colorado and Wyoming.

Shortly after the April 2015 aquision of Bad Daddy's, the company's stock reached its five year high of $9.57.  Today the stock sits at about $3, but company officials are hopeful that the Bad Daddy's new store development pipeline will lead to more interest in the brand and have a positive impact on its stock price.

In addition to the Chamblee location, two more Bad Daddy’s are under construction in Colorado, one in Raleigh, and two more are expected to begin construction soon in Charlotte.  The company also indicated that they are finalizing leases in Nebraska and Oklahoma for fiscal 2017 and 2018 development.

A Bad Daddy's at Turkey Creek, a mixed use development in Knoxville,Tennessee, opened in spring 2015, but closed this past January.

In Chamblee, Bad Daddy's is expected to be joined by Atlanta's own The Nook as dining options in Parkview on Peachtree.  Overall, Parkview on Peachtree will be comprised of about 40,000 square feet of street-front shop space, 14,000 square feet of loft office space, and 303 "luxury" apartments.  A second phase of the development is expected to add another 200 apartments.

According to a representative from Bad Daddy's, the restaurant "is slated to open in September." Parkview on Peachtree has not published any detailed site plans as to who else will be opening in the development and has denied requests for details on expected openings.

Have you been to a Bad Daddy's Burger Bar?  If so, how was it?  Are you excited for Bad Daddy's and The Nook to be joining the Parkview on Peachtree development?  What other tenants would you like to see open in the Parkview on Peachtree development?

I've never been to a Bad Daddy's and actually have never even heard of it. Hopefully its good though. Will be nice to have a quicker burger joint in that area.

But I wonder how it will compete with Yeah Burger going in across the street near the Whole Foods? Not sure that area can support both burger establishments along with so many other new fast-casual places opening around it.

If this place doesn't have bottomless fries then it might be a non starter with Yeah! Burger opening up across the street much earlier than they are.

Shouldn't the article say Peachtree Boulevard? Peachtree Industrial Blvd doesn't begin until almost to (or perhaps even outside of) 285.

I have never been to (or heard of Big Daddy's) but love a good burger so I am looking forward to it!

Yeah! can be pretty pricey. If Big Daddy's is a bit cheaper that may help it beat Yeah!

And there's a Five Guys right across the street from this in the Wal-Mart shopping center, to go with a new Yeah Burger and Marlowes close by. Good luck Bad Daddy's, you have your work cut out for you.

This should be a better location than Yeah Burger as it is on the main portion of the rail trail and closer to downtown Chamblee.

Hey, Eli. Always enjoy your writings - for years. Just days away from their 1 year anniversary, Brookhaven Provisions literally after being open for Saturday brunch, abruptly overnight by Sunday changed hands and had a new sign erected on the building called Fiorello's Italian Bistro, complete with renovations and new decor in by Monday with a planned opening date of tomorrow, Thursday of the same week!

Does anybody really use that particular trail? I believe the trail itself when built had a great vision of connecting to the park and was a great improvement. It starts seemingly at the access to the loading dock of Chamblee Walmart and runs underneath PIB (now known as Peachtree Boulevard) where I have often seen the homeless emerge - never seen walkers, runners, or bikers.

I just took a look at the menu for the Greenville location and Big Daddy's is actually more expensive than Yeah!

It is compared to Red Robin...it will have to be REALLY good to be comparable to Red Robin's burgers!

Thank goodness a burger place! We don't have any in metro Atlanta!

@ Anon at 9:44AM - then they're doomed (IMO)!

Red Robin is horrible IMHO. This concept is DOA in the ATL if that is the best comparison. The burger market is going to bust along with waistlines.

Good Luck to them- there is a Marlow, a Shake Shack, a Yeah Burger, a Five Guys, and A farm Burger all within a 5 minute drive- not to metion Lukcy's Burgers that won best burger in Atlanta 2 years in a row- so they can not compete on quality-they will have to compete on price.

You mentioned the Nook but bizjournals has a new concept called The Alden going in, is the Nook confirmed? would love to see both!

@Anon 12.27 - the trail is getting used more and more. Its been having sporadic closures due to construction but I run/bike/walk and take the kids over, once it links up with downtown Chamblee and Parkview opens it will get busy.

@Anon RE: The Nook,

According to the developer, although The Nook was once in discussions to open in the project, they are no longer looking to do so, although they would like to expand beyond their Midtown location.

Thanks for your comments and readership.
