Bits & Bites [Atlanta Commercial Real Estate News]

World of Beer has closed its location on Chastain Road in Kennesaw. The beer-centric eatery which opened in late 2014 quietly closed a little over a week ago according to local sources.  The nearly 4,000 square foot restaurant was located in Madison Place at Chastain, a shopping center also home to Marlow's Tavern, Del Taco and Uncle Maddio's Pizza, among other tenants.  Tampa, Florida-based World of Beer continues to operate just one metro Atlanta location, in the bottom of the Viewpoint condo building on Peachtree Street in midtown.  A World of Beer location that was planned for Dunwoody in 2015 is still not open and seems to have been abandoned [the space is listed as available on the property's leasing page] despite the location's listing as "coming soon" on the company website.  For what it's worth, the Kennesaw location, too, is still listed as active on the company's website.
V Live Atlanta, the popular strip club opened by entertainer T.I. this past summer, closed for "renovations" a few weeks ago, has announced earlier this week that they will celebrate their "Grand Re-Opening" this coming Friday.  The club, located on Marietta Boulevard near Huff Road, was previously known as Diamonds of Atlanta, but changed names to V Live last summer.  The club got its name from the club by the same name in Houston which was closed down for unpaid taxes this past fall.  Friday's party will reportedly include "over 100 entertainers."

The Red Snapper, established in 1986 and a Cheshire Bridge Road mainstay in the decades since, is up for sale.  There is no question that Cheshire Bridge Road is changing and apparently husband & wife chefs/owners Jimmy and Somporn Veeranarong are ready to move on.  The Shumacher Group is handling the listing  for the restaurant which indicates the approximately 3,000 square foot restaurant has monthly rent of $4,720, gross annual sales of $550,000, and had a net profit of $150,000.  The restaurant is being offered at $350,000 "with generous owner financing options available."

Jilli Boutique is coming soon to Chastain Square in north Buckhead.  The local boutique, with existing locations in Dunwoody and Milton, sells women's clothing and accessories. The Buckhead location planned for Chastain Square will be 1,200 square feet and will occupy the former UPS Store which relocated to a larger space [a former at&t] closer to anchor Publix.  The new Jilli is expected to open September 1st.

The new Kula Revolving Sushi "soft" opened for dinner starting yesterday.  The new restaurant, which ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported early last month was coming soon, is located in Doraville near Super H Mart and BrandsMart USA.

A new Willy's Mexicana Grill on LaVista Road near Northlake Mall in Tucker is expected to open August 28th.  The Tucker restaurant will be the Atlanta based chain's 32nd location in Georgia.  In other Willy's news, last week the company announced that their "Willy's Road Trip" was returning this summer.  The first five people to visit all 30 Willy's restaurants in Georgia will receive free Willy's for one year (52 free entree cards).  In recent years, Willy's has grown steadily from an in-town chain to a regional restaurant group with locations in Columbus, Peachtree City, Athens and Cartersville, among others.  A Willy's on Concourse B of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is not included in the 30, but if you visit it you will get a bonus $50 Willy's gift card.  There is no minimum purchase required from each restaurant visit, so one could purchase the new Willy's souvenir cup for the ability to get $1 refills at future stops.  The contest started July 14th and ends August 12th.  The first person to complete the mission also gets a catered party for 20 to "celebrate with all your jealous friends."

Adjacent to the Willy's coming soon to Tucker, Starbucks recently opened their new location with drive-thru that replaces their older, now closed location at nearby Northlake Tower Festival.

Jacksonville, Florida-based Maple Street Biscuit Company is set to open this fall in an former Baptist church building in downtown Duluth, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.   Maple Street, which has nine locations in Florida and a recently opened store in Chattanooga, serves a variety of biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and lunch.  Maple Street  joins a steadily growing lineup of restaurants open or planning to open at Parsons Alley, the collective name for the re-imagined Duluth restaurant and retail district. Dreamland Bar-B-Q  and O4W Pizza opened last July, while Simply Done Donuts opened their first brick-and-mortar location this past March.  Good Word Brew Pub, from the owners of Decatur’s Brick Store Pub, and Korean steakhouse Noona from the team behind Taiyo Ramen and Suzy Siu’s, are expected to open in the coming months.

A new barbecue restaurant called Loyal Q and Brew is getting closer to opening in East Cobb.  Signage at Parkaire Landing shopping center at the corner of Johnson Ferry and Lower Roswell Road went up a few weeks ago and the restaurant is currently hiring staff. Loyal Q will occupy a 6,385 square foot end cap space in the Kroger anchored shopping center.  Loyal Q is being opened by a number of seasoned restaurant industry veterans including Susie Addo, who was previously Chief Operating Officer at TM Restaurant Group LLC, the parent company of Taco Mac.  Daniel Diersen is listed as the restaurant's Executive Chef.  In one post on Craigslist, Loyal Q describes itself saying: "We are a high volume BBQ restaurant, that is looking to hire experienced Team Members who are team oriented, hard working and are passionate about food. We smoke and grill all of our meats with live fire that is flavored by oak and hickory woods. We source our proteins from local and reputable farmers because we want the best. Guest are our number one priority but our team is just as important to us. Come be a part of our team. We can't wait to MEAT you!" Sources say Loyal Q should open by the middle of next month.

The Fresh Market is renovating and tweaking the offerings at all 11 Atlanta area stores.  The company sent out an email to customers this week detailing the changes.

"Exciting updates are under way in the Atlanta area!

We're preparing some irresistible updates for your shopping experience to bring you even more of the extraordinary foods you love with a focus on fantastic fresh fare, local and seasonal produce, tasty organic and unique new flavors from around the corner and around the world.  We're also including a fresh selection of household items to complement your favorite foods, so you can find more of the goods you need every day, while enjoying a shopping experience you won't find anywhere else.

Please excuse our mess as we refresh your store, and stay tuned for more details.  We'll be celebrating the updates soon and hope you'll join us!"

Among The Fresh Market's locations in metro Atlanta are stores in south Buckhead, Dunwoody, Druid Hills, north Buckhead and East Cobb.

Slated to open in early August, lululemon athletica will open their first Georgia outlet store at the North Georgia Premium Outlets in Dawsonville.  The shop will be located near Vera Bradley in a 3,000 square-foot space. The yoga-inspired and sports-centric retailer sells assorted active lifestyle wear, including yoga accessories, performance shirts, shorts and pants for both men and women.  Vancouver-based Lululemon operates five full-line stores in metro Atlanta including locations at the Shops Around Lenox in Buckhead, Westside Provisions District on the Westside, Ponce City Market in midtown, Avalon in Alpharetta and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The company also operates a showroom in Athens and a store in Savannah.

I hate to the see the Red Snapper close, but honestly haven’t eaten there in years and not sure I was ever a big fan. I do hate the way Cheshire Bridge is changing whether you see it as a good or bad thing I suspect it will certainly be a generic atmosphere when all is done.

Cheshire Bridge will be just like West Midtown when its fully developed.

Nothing at all will change and it will be exactly the same as it is today. Littered with pot holes and impassable.

I was so excited about the Tucker Starbucks and the Willy's. However the parking lot is ridiculously small. I have never seen a Starbucks crammed into such a small lot. The drive through is awful. Huge dissapointment!!!

The quirky, lovable Cheshire Bridge is gone. First Franco's (the real NY pizza 1980s version, that is) and the Varsity Jr. (yeah, it was Lindberg, but close enough). Then Alfredo's. Red Snapper. Nino's and Roxx are next, I'm sure. Colonnade will probably remain forever due to some kind of deal made with Satan at the Crossroads...

Maple Street Biscuit Company is what is going to get me down to Duluth. I have been to the one in St. Augustine, and it was fantastic.

I popped in what I assume is a recently freshened (!) Fresh Market in Brighten Park the other day and it really was much more open and inviting. Also had a great, QUICK POS system that had to cost a good bit. But those stores remain so boutiquey to me, not full-service grocers.
