[SMOKIN!] City Barbeque Secures Site in Suwanee

City Barbeque, the Dublin, Ohio-based barbeque restaurant that officially opens its first Atlanta area location today in Decatur, has signed a lease on its second metro location.  Joining the newly constructed freestanding restaurant in Decatur Crossing will be a location in Johns Creek Town Center on Peachtree Parkway in Johns Creek/Suwanee.

The Johns Creek/Suwanee restaurant will open in place of Applebee's, which closed its freestanding outparcel restaurant in the Kohl's and Lowe's anchored center this past May.  The new restaurant will be about 5,200 square feet, about 1,500 square feet bigger than the Decatur location.  Restaurant representatives told ToNeTo Atlanta that renovations to the space should begin in October and that the restaurant is expected to open late next spring.

City Barbeque is a counter service, quick-serve restaurant but its presentation and quality lend itself to a more upscale experience.  The restaurant uses Ole Hickory Pits smokers and in the case of the Decatur restaurant, named their three smokers: Lil Jon, Big Boi and Ludapits.

The first City Barbeque opened in Columbus, Ohio in 1999. The Decatur restaurant is the chain's 33rd overall location.  City Barbeque is reportedly looking to add at least two other Atlanta area locations in the years to come.

Have you ever been to a City Barbeque?   Where should City Barbeque open next?  Where is your favorite barbeque in Atlanta?

Ate at the City Barbeque in Gahanna when we lived in Bexley/Columbus OH area. It is very good when you are Southerner living in a locale not known for it's BBQ like Ohio. Would rather eat "local" at Community Q or Fox Bros in all honesty.

This place is going to give Community Q competition. Although it's a chain, it has genuinely good food. The Q's Mac and cheese is better but City's BBQ beans, Potato Salad, and especially corn pudding are outstanding. Desserts are pricey but taste like house made.

City Barbeque and Community Q are both great... Community is more of a joint, City has a bit of a more comfortable refined environment. I appreciate City's commitment to the community - they are raising money for Camp Sunshine at their grand opening and I spoke with their manager - its just the start of a lot more to come. I'll frequent both.

In is quite obvious this blog has become overrun with anonymous cheerleaders with a personal stake in the restaurant du jour. I am less inclined to visit a place that has extremely positive biased reviews. I read it on the internet so it must be true! LOL!
