Eat Fit Go plans to open its third Atlanta area location in Sandy Springs this coming Friday, November 17th. The healthy meals business will be the first eatery to open in the new The Plaza at City Springs development on the site of the former American Pie bar & restaurant. Earlier this year, Eat Fit Go opened locations on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta and on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna. In the coming weeks, Tin Drum, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, MOD Pizza, Starbucks and Zoës Kitchen, among other tenants, will join Eat Fit Go in the new center.
Houston, Texas-based Tootsies, a women's ready to wear, shoes, handbag, jewelry, and accessories boutique, will be moving from its longtime Buckhead home next year. Currently located in what research shows to be a 12,000 square foot space in the Shops Around Lenox, Tootsies has secured a new 7,000 square foot space in Buckhead Exchange, at the corner of Grandview Avenue and Peachtree Road. Permits were filed with the City of Atlanta earlier today to begin work on the space with an estimated $400,000 expected to be spent on the build out. Sources close to the retailer confirm that unlike Sephora's location in Buckhead Exchange, which is in addition to its store in Lenox Square, the Tootsies at Buckhead Exchange will be instead of rather than in addition to its current Buckhead store. Calls placed to Mia Van Wagenen of MVO Marketing, who handles PR for the Shops Around Lenox, Normal Lewis, COO of Tootsies, and Tisha Maley, who handles leasing for Shops Around Lenox, seeking comment on the move, were not returned by press time. Aside from Dantanna's, Tootsies was the last longtime tenant in the center. Interestingly, before the renovation at what is today known as Buckhead Exchange, Luna boutique was a tenant in the center, but relocated to the Shops Around Lenox in the fall of 2015. Sources say that Tootsies opened at the Shops Around Lenox in 2003, having relocated from Phipps Plaza.
Dr. S. Mark McKenna is also opening his new OVME medical office in Buckhead Exchange early next year. OVME, pronounced "of me," will be located in a nearly 2,500 square foot space opposite Kale Me Crazy on the back side of the center. OVME is meant to denote "attention to you." McKenna previously sold ShapeMed to Life Time Fitness for $4.4 million in 2015. With OVME, McKenna is in the same genre of ShapeMed but with a more technological twist. In an interview with Forbes earlier this summer, McKenna described OVME as "a national chain of cosmetic medical offices with an app that will function like an Uber for Botox patients. Using OVME’s app, customers will be able to connect with freelance practitioners who will make house calls on demand. We think we can grow to $25 million over the next five years," he told Forbes. In addition to the Buckhead location, which is expected to open early next year, McKenna is also planning an office in Nashville.
Studio Movie Grill will open their newest Atlanta area location tomorrow, November 16, in Marietta. The new location opens in place of the long shuttered Sports Authority in the former Harry's Farmers Market-anchored center on Powers Ferry Road near Roswell Road, not far from The Big Chicken. According to the Studio Movie Grill website, the new location will feature 1,285 luxury seats in 11 auditoriums and feature over 60 premium spirits, signature cocktails and local microbrews. The Dallas, Texas-based company operates two other locations in metro Atlanta, in Roswell/Alpharetta which opened in 2010 in a former A&P grocery store, and in Duluth in a former Circuit City, which opened in 2012.
Antico Pizza Napoletana, which did business at their Miami area location as "centro storico" and closed in September, is apparently in talks to reopen in nearby Bal Harbour. Sources close to the restaurant also indicate that the eatery was actually doing well, but its building was plagued by flooding issues even before Hurricane Irma hit. Restaurant owner Giovanni Di Palma reportedly remains committed to Miami and is confident his move to Bal Harbour will be successful.
Alexis Suitcase has opened in place of Fantastic Finds on Sandy Springs Circle in Sandy Springs. The women's consignment store reportedly opened about a month ago in place of Fantastic Finds, another women's consignment store that has been in business for many years. The store is located in the Springs Landing shopping center, next to Breadwinner Cafe & Bakery. In addition to the Sandy Springs store, Alexis Suitcase has locations in Johns Creek on State Bridge Road and in Buckhead on Peachtree Road.
Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital Group has reportedly made an unsolicited buyout offer to Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings late Monday. Roark, which already owns Arby's, Moe's Southwest Grill, Hardee's and Jimmy John's, among others, offered about $150 a share, or $2.3 billion, for Buffalo Wild Wings, according to the Wall Street Journal. The offer represents a 28% premium over Monday's closing price of $117.25 for Buffalo Wild Wings shares.
Amazingly, despite seemingly endless closures, a new Uncle Maddio’s Pizza is coming to Terminal T at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Poke Perfect has sold their Decatur location to LA-based Poke Bar. The Decatur Poke Perfect opened this past May on Church Street near the square. A second Poke Perfect was to open on Howell Mill Road in place of a former Yoforia at Westside Provisions, but it has been pushed back several months. Sources close to the eatery indicate that Westside Provisions owner Jamestown is not keen on having an out-of-town based poke joint in the complex, as they would prefer a local operator. A lease on a third location planned in Inman Park near Krog Street Market was reportedly never executed, and it's doubtful that Poke Bar will pursue it given they already have a restaurant coming to Highland Avenue across from Parish. Today was the Decatur location's last day as Poke Perfect. Poke Bar plans limited changes/renovations and to reopen in about two weeks. Poke Bar has five existing Atlanta area locations in Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Suwanee, Duluth and Edgewood.
Newk's Eatery is opening a new location in Howell Mill Square on Howell Mill Road. The new 5,125 square foot eatery will be to the the left of Kroger and will occupy spaces previously occupied by both Mama Niki's Pizza and Chin Chin. Chin Chin previously relocated to another space within the center, whereas Mama Niki's closed and did not reopen elsewhere. This new Newk's is being opened by the same franchise group that recently opened in Tucker Meridian near Northlake Mall in Tucker.
