Krystal Planning Shiny New Restaurant in Buckhead

Krystal plans to demolish and then rebuild their Buckhead restaurant at 3037 Piedmont Road.  The existing restaurant, built in 1999, is about 2,000 square feet and sits on about six tenths of an acre.  Krystal, which owns the property, plans to construct a new, slightly smaller restaurant measuring about 1,800 square feet that will sport the brand's latest, more modern "clocktower" design.
The new Buckhead Krystal should look like this

The first Krystal to debut the new look was a rebuilt location on Cobb Parkway in Marietta that reopened last April after an extensive "remolding."

ToNeTo Atlanta reached out to Krystal corporate for comment on the planned rebuild.  We were told that the company had selected a few hundred locations for rebuild, among them, the Buckhead location.  Despite active plans on file with Livable Buckhead, the Krystal representative was unable to provide any details or expected timeline for the Buckhead rebuild.

Plans submitted to Livable Buckhead indicate that the restaurant plans a "reduction of parking from 22 to 20 spaces" and also a "shift of building footprint to facilitate traffic flow and deliveries."

The current Piedmont restaurant operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the replacement restaurant would likely do so as well.

Krystal, which began in Chattanooga in 1932, moved its headquarters to Dunwoody in 2013.

Are you excited at the prospect of a new Krystal in Buckhead?  What is your favorite fast food burger?  White Castle or Krystal?

I like how all these chains say they're going for a more 'modern' look every time the tear down an old store. But when they're rebuilt, they all look the same, Krystal, Burger King, Popeyes, etc. I thought we lived in a time of branding, this look is homogenous whereas in the 60s/70s you could tell each chain by their distinct buildings. Sad it's come to this.

@Steve,

You are SO right! I very much miss the days of cool restaurants like the old school Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut and Arby's restaurants as well as the Burger Chef chain. Their bruildings had the uniqueness and character that is very much lacking in many of today's "modern" designs.

Thanks for youre comments and readership!

New construction is nice, the concept is sound.....DONT HIRE THE YOOFS, TEENS, and NASTY THUGS......NO ONE WILL PATRONIZE IT.....it’s the emplyees stupid! Soooo many restaurants suffer from this scenario....and managers cant figure this out???

Forget the new construction, gleaming new facilities, and cool architectures.....the most important factor is the employees! No moe AA “ workers” with their attitudes, disrespect, and evil ways!

Places like this are at the bottom of the service industry, so they get the "leftover" workers. As the economy improves this problem will only get worse. While I can't remember the last time I've eaten at a Krystal I did visits Zaxby's a few times in the last couple of months. The change in service and quality of food over a year or two ago was shockingly apparent. Bottom line those older slightly more responsible workers have found better jobs and now we are back to the teens and parolees.

They just built a Krystal like this one in Memphis, TN. I completely agree, all of the new fast food restaurants look EXACTLY the same. Like boxes with different adornments. This blog is great, I grew up in Marietta and lived there all my life until moving to Memphis for my job. I love keeping up with what's going on! Thank you for all that you do and write about.

Seriously, who eats at these places? Fast food across the board is so disgusting. Then you have the freaks eating and driving. Hideous.

Fall 2017 - watched daily progress of an Arby's being built and open for business in under 2 months. These are not LEED certified buildings, they are prefabricated boxes that will be in the landfills in under 20 years.
