[EXCLUSIVE] Pao Pao Ramen and Rolled Ice Cream Coming to Toco Hills

With the Toco Hills neighborhood digesting Sunday's closure of Bagel Palace, an updated site-plan indicates that two new eateries are coming soon to the center.  Pao Pao Ramen and Pao Pao Rolled Ice Cream will open in a portion of the former Shoe Center space, between Bishops Cut & Color and Kale Me Crazy, both of which were previously announced to be opening, but neither of which has yet opened.
The original and currently only other Pao Pao locations are in Mill Creek Village, a small shopping center on Buford Drive across from Mall of Georgia in Buford.  The two shops share a roughly 3,000 square foot space and opened this past fall.

Ramen, a Japanese dish that is growing in popularity, consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles usually served in a meat-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and with toppings such as sliced pork, dried seaweed, and green onions.

Rolled ice cream is also growing in popularity with a number of shops popping up that specialize in the Thai specialty.  Rolled ice cream is essentially just what it sounds like. What starts as a liquid dairy dessert is frozen and then rolled, creating "rolled ice cream."

Pao Pao owner and Beijing, China native Amy Cao owns both Pao Pao and R. Rice Wok Grill & Sushi Bar in Sandy Springs, according to her Facebook page.  R. Rice, located at the corner of Hammond Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road, was opened by Chow Bing and Smoke + Duck Sauce founder Gary Lin in 2010, and later sold to Cao.

Despite a site-plan for Toco Hills indicating the new Pao Pao will be nearly 8,500 square feet, a source close to the development indicates the restaurant's actual size is about 2,600 square feet.

In addition to Pao Pao, gourmet salad eatery Chopt and Hudson Grille are opening at Toco Hills and Neapolitan pizzeria The Local Pizzaiolo recently opened.

Are you excited about the addition of ramen and rolled ice cream at Toco Hills? What recent opening or upcoming opening at Toco Hills are you most pleased to see?  What is your oldest memory at Toco Hills?
