[UPDATE] Del Taco Quietly Closed in East Cobb

The Del Taco on Roswell Road in East Cobb abruptly closed earlier this week after about three years in business.  The restaurant, located at 4269 Roswell Road, was built on an outparcel of East Cobb Crossing shopping center where for many years a TCBY had operated.  ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the planned Del Taco in 2011, but it was not until spring of 2015 that it opened, meaning that it was in the planning stages for longer than it was in business.  The restaurant was reportedly owned by a franchisee.
The East Cobb Del Taco replaced this old school TCBY shop

Sources in the area indicate that the closure was sudden and that it's unclear why the restaurant closed.  Not far from the now shuttered Del Taco, a short-lived Pollo Tropical restaurant was recently demolished to make way for a new Regions Bank branch.

ToNeTo Atlanta reported recently that the Lake Forest, California-based chain, which last month added "Fresh Mexican Grill" to its name, has plans for at least three additional Atlanta area locations with others in the pipeline.  In the months to come, Del Taco plans to open new restaurants on Highway 5 in Douglasville, Mansell Road in Roswell and Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram.

Del Taco marked their third return to metro Atlanta in 2012 with a freestanding location that opened on the site of a former Fazoli's along Scenic Highway in Snellville.  In the years since, the chain has added both corporately owned and franchised locations elsewhere in metro Atlanta and around the state, including two locations each in Kennesaw and Smyrna, as well as locations in McDonough, Milton and Woodstock, among others.  In all, the company has eleven other locations open in Georgia with plans for many more.

Although most if not all of the Georgia Del Taco restaurants previously operated 24/7, only those in Centerville (Macon) and Columbus currently do, according to the company's website.

Are you surprised by the sudden closure of Del Taco in East Cobb?  What would you like to see open in place of Del Taco in East Cobb?  What is your favorite quick-serve Mexican food chain?

Wow! I'm sad ... I live around the corner and they were always fast and good. Bring in something good - Burger King, Culver, BBQ with a drive thru, Fazoli's.

The Milton location might as well close too! Poorly run, erratic hours, sometimes the lights aren't even all on during normal lunch hours. Just a disaster!

Speaking of Fazoli's ... Do you know if they are going to grow here in Marietta?

No too surprised that the restaurant closed. Originally it was open twenty four hours per day and then reduced hours of operation. Tried it several times, Service was hit or miss. It sits back off the road. The Chick-fil-A on Johnson Ferry Road has closed for remodeling.

The drive thru service was awful lately. I last went 3 Tuesdays ago. I was the third car in line and never got food. The car in front of me sent kids meals back indicating that the orders were wrong. After 20 minutes of sitting there, the person that arrived immediately after me backed out and I followed suit. As I exited, an employee placed a wet floor sign in the lane to prevent anyone from entering. It was maddening.

Captain D's would be awesome

Captain D's or Culver's would be mind blowing

"Unclear why it closed?" Only if you never tried to get your order in less than 20 minutes. The food was good, when you could get it. Four out of five employees should have been fired and replaced.
