[CLOSURE ALERT] Sugarboo & Co. to Close "Flagship" Store in Brookhaven

Sugarboo & Co. plans to close its store at TOWN Brookhaven in Brookhaven.  The 2,564 square foot store, located alongside Yogurtland and Salon Red in the CineBistro, Costco, Marshalls, Publix and LA Fitness anchored center, opened in 2013 and was the brand's first retail store.  Signage posted to the store's front door indicates it's due to close permanently as of Friday, May 31.

The Atlanta-based company, which also operates a robust wholesale business, will remain open in metro Atlanta at Ponce City Market, The Battery Atlanta, The Collection at Forsyth and at North Point Mall. In addition to Sugarboo's four remaining Atlanta area stores, the company has six stores open and another two coming soon in Florida, Kentucky, Texas, Nevada and California.

Local artist Rebecca Puig started Sugarboo in 2005.  The retail stores, which Brookhaven was referred to as the "flagship," carried both Puig's original designs on textiles, art and other home decor as well as complementary accessories and decor from other lines and collections.

The Brookhaven store will reportedly have no liquidation sales in advance of their closure and will instead transfer on hand merchandise to other stores.

TOWN Brookhaven, widely considered to be one of the most plagued mixed-use developments in metro Atlanta, had in recent months ceded that title to Emory Point, which itself has seen numerous retail and restaurant closures

Are you surprised by Sugarboo's planned closure in TOWN Brookhaven?  What would you like to see open in place of Sugarboo at TOWN Brookhaven?  Which non-anchor tenant in TOWN Brookhaven to you frequent most?

Never heard of this Sugarboo chain. The name and logo give the appearance that it's an expensive children's boutique, which is niche market that (personally) have no need for at this point in my life. On a final note, If the "flagship" store cannot survive, then it's only a matter of time ...

Sad, they couldn't reach agreement with Sembler on a fair renewal. "Ghost" Town Brookhaven needs to realize they are not a premium destination spot and start trying to attract some quality retailers with reasonable rents. Bua, Old Blind Dog and There offer superior quality food compared to the run of the mill "food court" type places that come & go, at an alarming rate. They really started their downward spiral when they let Leila Boutique not renew.

Blame the developer the Sembler Company for this crappy shopping center! This prime land should have been designed better. Like The Avenues, The Forum, Avalon, etc ... Instead you have a kindergarten design. No imagination. no good Flow. Lifeless building. Shameful. I would say that it was that other disastrous Builder jeffy fequa of fuqua development but its not. Could have been great but now its an eye sore. Ouch

Went to Town Brookhaven for the first time 5 years ago. I did not even get out of the car. The design and layout seem to have been put together without any thought whatsoever. Left immediately. Never again.

I believe Fuqua was the head of Sembler when the Town Brookhaven project was started.

The demise of this establishment is more likely a function of Sembler not wanting to negotiate a good price vs. Bad layout or lack of parking. Come on you lazy bums there is always parking available you just might have to walk a little. How lazy we have become. And comparisons to the Forum in Peachtree Corners? That is an outdoor mall with no residential. Sure it looks nice. Bottom Line Sure Town Brookhaven could have been done better but adding more parking is NOT the answer and many businesses are doing well there

I don't have a problem with the parking. It's the design and layout of this whole Shopping Center it's ugly. ugly. Ugly. Great location but lack of design. Sembler and fuqua should stop with this ugly shit. Upgraded from the below standard look. Look at that ugly Kennesaw marketplace. Another great location and poor ass design! I could have done a better design and I'm a freshman.

You people are never happy. You live, work and play with nothing but self inflicted misery in your daily lives. Big developer BAD ... all other parties involved are never to blame for failure. Unsuccessful and butt hurt.

This retailer was probably a bad fit for basically a neighborhood shopping center. As nice as Brookhaven is to live in it is not a destination shopping area. This place needs to be located somewhere like Ponce City or maybe Lenox that draws people from around the region.

It’s a home store with some children’s/jewelry but otherwise great things!
