[CLOSURE ALERT] O'Charley's Out of Business in Tucker

O'Charley's Restaurant + Bar Sunday evening closed its longstanding location off Northlake Parkway in Tucker.  The restaurant, located in a freestanding building at 2039 Crescent Centre Boulevard, was located close to the Northlake LA Fitness where Service Merchandise was once located.  The Tucker location was reportedly one of at least seven that the Nashville-based restaurant chain closed Sunday.  Another Georgia location, at 1520 West Walnut Avenue in Dalton, also closed Sunday.
The Southern inspired American restaurant chain is perhaps best known for their popular "Free Pie Wednesday" promotion where diners receive a free slice of pie when they dine-in an order at least one entree.

O'Charley's closed its Macon location near Macon Mall last March amidst another round of restaurant closures.  Online records indicate the chain has closed a dozen or so locations annually over the past several years.

The first O'Charley's opened across from Nashville's Vanderbilt University in 1971.  Today, there are more than 200 locations across 17 states.

O'Charley's now joins fellow casual dining restaurants Bennigan's and Ruby Tuesday as having former locations in or near Northlake Mall.  A long forgotten Bennigan's was located at 3332 Northlake Parkway behind Northlake Mall while Ruby Tuesday was previously located at the front of the mall.

Following the Tucker closure, the chain will operate only a handful of locations in the greater metro Atlanta area including restaurants in Snellville, Marietta, Kennesaw, Lawrenceville and Austell.

The O'Charley's closure in Tucker is the fourth chain restaurant to close along Northlake Parkway over the last decade or so.  Major League Bar & Grill occupies a onetime Olive Garden while Hudson Grille occupies what was originally a Chili's Bar & Grill.   A Pollo Tropical restaurant closed this past December in an outparcel of Target.  Del Taco has reportedly expressed interest in taking over the space, but reportedly nothing has been finalized.

Amazingly, Piccadilly Cafeteria remains in business nearby while a long vacant Steak & Ale nearby was finally demolished last year for a new senior apartment development.

While it's not yet known what if any plans there may be for the now vacant O'Charley's, with luck, it won't stay vacant long.

On the other side of I-285, sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that plans for Northlake Mall could include half a dozen or so new restaurants.  Concepts like Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Cracker Barrel, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews are among those most likely to have interest in the project.

Are you disappointed that O'Charley's closed its Tucker location?  What would you like to see open in place of O'Charley's in Tucker?  What casual dining chain would you most like to see open at Northlake Mall?

I’m surprised you didn’t mention that this location was formerly Mother Tucker’s Steakhouse. And that Service Merchandise was formerly Ellman’s.

Although I'm always disappointed when local eateries close, if I didn't patronize them I can't complain too much. That was the case for me with O'Charley's. I liked it but for some reason hadn't been by in many years.

I quit going to the Tucker O'Charley's a few years ago because the service had gotten so bad. The servers had really bad attitudes and it was almost painful to deal with them.

We stopped going to O'Charleys a few years ago because of poor service.

Our server Shirley was always spot on with our group every month. Not sure the author of this blog is old enough to remember Mother Tucker's LOL!!!

I'd like to see something like a Cheesecake Factory, or a Maggiano's go in there. Service at Red Lobster has been so erratic for the last 15 years that we pretty much stopped going there. Service is of course the key - as long as a place has at least acceptable food, if the service is spot on, the customers come back.

RichSnob - Why don't you patronize the local restaurants rather than all those chains. At least with local places they buy their food and other products locally rather than being trucked in from some out of state warehouse. Cheesecake Factory is the worst. And Maggiano's, please no unless you are big fan of Ragu

I would love to see a more family friendly establishment...cheesecake factory. Maggianos are great choices .. even a Ryan's.

These chain restaurants are dying out - and the main two reasons are bad / microwaved food and bottom of the food chain (pun intended) employees.

That's my area. But would like to see new/up to date restaurants or different eatery like a Texas Roadhouse or Del taco or Hardee's some different in the area.

Food is over rated. A walking facility with an indoor playground would make millions.

Or the Cork and Cleaver, Victoria Station, Quinn’s Mill or Steak and Ale. Chili’s in Tucker was the first Chili’s opened in the United States outside Texas. The franchisees then in their 70s did not want to spend millions to make that Chili’s look like the new ones. Can’t say I blame them. Steak and Ale closed because their parent company had to file for bankruptcy not because it did not do a good business.

What with the Hickory House on Northlake Parkway for sale at a price of $2,100,000.00 and the old Olive Garden location which is Majo s League Sports Bar and Grill also on the Parkway being up for sale for $2,350,000.00 , no telling which restaurants, if any, will consider moving to our Northlake area. Cracker Barrel would be a good choice as it is a family establishment for all ages rather than a bar and grill with loud music and dancing. Just saying....

How about a True Food Kitchen (or at least Flower Child) at Northlake?

That whole north lake tucker area just doesn’t have the excitement of perimeter or Buckhead or sandy springs to attract such modernized up market-ish dining establishments. When I think of that area I think of Folks, some kind of Kacys country buffet, blue ribbon, Which is all truckstop fare. I think of dead abd deteriorating shopping malls and shopping centers. I went to the new one there The size of the property is massive however the design is terrible and the retail mix is very uninspiring. I think if they tear down the mall and build premium outlets that may be a good win-win for The area. Or better yet tear down the mall and the dead and dilapidated shopping centers and create movie studios. There are billions of investment dollars out there and companies willing to invest in new and rejuvenated communities. I think the city planners are not thinking outside the box in terms of what the areas should look like 10 years from now.

Jobs are needed in Tucker SE Deklab to attract quality restaurants

Until the Tucker/Northlake area is upgraded and brought appropriately outfitted for the 21st century, no decent name brand food establishment will survive.

Just look at the mall -

O’Charleys had a decent lunch crowd. With all the apartments coming in, Emory Healthcare going into the old Sears with 1,600 employees and the new subdivision on LaVista - this will be a prime location again. Thank goodness we still have Folks and Old Hickory House.
