Habitat for Humanity Wednesday confirmed a rumor we'd heard earlier this month. Due reportedly to disappointing sales, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore on DeKalb Industrial Parkway in Doraville will close permanently as of March 21. The store, which opened in late 2015, had great visibility off of I-85 and seemed to be a popular destination for all kinds of donations.
That said, and despite easy access from Chamblee Tucker Road and popular neighbors like the headquarters of Big Green Egg, the volume of shoppers never met the organization's expectations, according to a source at the store.
ReStore, a concept created to extend the reach of the organization and raise funds for their charitable efforts, sold all sorts of home appliances, materials, decor, furniture, tools and other household goods at affordable prices.
An email sent to customers Wednesday said in part:
"Dear customers, volunteers, donors and community supporters, On March 21st 2020, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 3740 DeKalb Technology Parkway will be permanently closed to the public. We wish to thank all of you for your unfailing support of our store and of our Habitat mission."
A Roswell area ReStore that also opened in 2015 was forced to close in 2018 after the shopping center in which it occupied a 26,000+ square foot space was sold to Fuqua Development. The entire shopping center along Alpharetta Highway, close to where Andretti Indoor Karting & Games recently closed, was demolished and replaced with hundreds of apartments.
Following the closure, Habitat for Humanity will still have four locations in the greater metro Atlanta area including stores on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, Riverside Parkway in Lawrenceville, GA-20 in McDonough and on Memorial Drive in Reynoldstown.

This store might have good visibility from I85 but they never promoted the location in any way to neighborhoods nearby. No one commuting to/from work is going to drop in.

Just learned there is one less than 5 miles from my house and never seen it or knew it exists. Weird.
We shopped there and donated several items. We found doors, lamps, tile, and wood furniture to upcycle for our Dunwoody home and our lake cottage. We will continue to support the remaining locations.
It was never promoted. All the ads were for the main store. This is the failure of the adminiatration. How are people to know about the store.
