[CLOSURE ALERT] Wendy's Shutters Two Atlanta Area Restaurants

Wendy's quietly closed two restaurants in Cobb county.  The two restaurants, both freestanding, reportedly closed without prior notice within the past few weeks.  ToNeTo Atlanta has tried for more than a week to confirm the reason(s) for the closure and an exact date of the closures but a Wendy's representative would only confirm that both units are permanently closed.  Wendy's operates more than 6,700 locations worldwide.

In recent years, Wendy's and its franchise partners have invested millions into "image activation" renovations and "scrape & rebuild" projects around the country.  It would seem as though the two now shuttered Cobb county restaurants did not meet the financial or performance metrics necessary to justify the investment.

The two now permanently closed Wendy's were located in Marietta and Kennesaw.  Specifically, one located at 2525 Barrett Creek Boulevard in Kennesaw, occupied a 1,310 square foot building and was a drive-thru only (DTO) location.  The restaurant was built in 2004, sits on .59 acres and was most recently appraised at $749,000, according to Cobb County records.  The restaurant was not far from Town Center at Cobb, but was also slightly hidden and not on the "main drag."

The Marietta location, 1043 Sandy Plains Road, was 2,940 square feet and sits on .93 acres.  Cobb County property records indicate the restaurant was built in 1991 and was most recently appraised at $805,000.  Wendys Properties LLC of Dublin, Ohio is listed as the owner of the real estate.

Starbucks has previously taken at least two former Atlanta area Wendy's and converted them including one on Powers Ferry in Sandy Springs, the other on Peachtree Street in south Buckhead.

Wendy's on Tuesday announced plans to launch breakfast nationwide on March 2.  The breakfast menu, previously tested at select locations, will include items like the Frosty-ccino, the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, and the Breakfast Baconator.

What would you like to see open in the two shuttered Wendy's restaurants?  Are you surprised that Wendy's closed these two Cobb county restaurants?  What is your favorite quick-serve burger chain?
