Wonder what will finally be made of the old Harris in Brookhaven, that antique joint was a joke!

I live near Toco so the A&P conversion to the Harris was nice and we had Publix and Kroger across the street and Whole Foods down the road. Such a shame because it really made Publix and especially Kroger be much more competitive and expand their offerings.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-36232406955006846732011-01-14T00:28:50.629-05:002011-01-14T00:28:50.629-05:00With talk that the Borders will close February 11t...With talk that the Borders will close February 11th, any guesses for what may take that space?Atlantan99https://www.blogger.com/profile/06115362060612910966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-61615697546556653142011-01-14T00:27:47.557-05:002011-01-14T00:27:47.557-05:00@Anon totally with ya on the thinking that buying ...@Anon totally with ya on the thinking that buying books at large corporate stores like Borders and Barnes & Noble is a fleeting concept. Why pay retail when you can get the same item at a significant savings online?

@Carl I did not remember B&N or Harris being the original two for Brookwood. Interesting though, I do kinda miss Harris Teeter. I do recall them being on board for the Sembler project on Ponce. If memory serves, they even had some signage up and a lot of interior work when the decided to leave the market. Whole Foods scored a great space and sadly in doing so, put Market One out of business.Atlantan99https://www.blogger.com/profile/06115362060612910966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-19868617811930626112011-01-13T14:13:24.617-05:002011-01-13T14:13:24.617-05:00I've been puzzled why this had taken so long t...I've been puzzled why this had taken so long to close, as they told employees it would be going nearly a year ago. I'll miss it, but I am more likely to visit other locations. Also, this was originally slated to be a B&N, and Borders took over the lease when B&N bailed. The same is true of the Kroger, which was built for Harris Teeter but never opened as such (much like Whole Foods Ponce).Carlhttp://twitter.com/carlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-60772537980081817252011-01-13T10:24:51.933-05:002011-01-13T10:24:51.933-05:00It's hard to justify buying books at Borders &...It's hard to justify buying books at Borders &/or B&N if I can buy it at Amazon for cheaper!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-11575106245821002972011-01-13T09:16:30.158-05:002011-01-13T09:16:30.158-05:00It wasn't a good store. The few times I have been in a book store lately they have been more of a social gathering than a retail outlet. The funny thing is that the smaller, independent bookstores will probably remain while the big chains that have to answer to shareholders will slowly fade into obscurity.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-579719431387122896.post-34334015372073256022011-01-13T03:11:57.033-05:002011-01-13T03:11:57.033-05:00Sad to see it go, there's not too many booksto...Sad to see it go, there's not too many bookstores left in midtown other than Barnes&Noble at Tech Square.
