[WOW] Whataburger Wanders up to Woodstock

Planning documents suggest that Whataburger is looking to replace a medical office with a new restaurant in Woodstock.  The burger chain is scheduled to appear before the Woodstock Planning Commission December 2 to present its plans.  The new Whataburger would be built on the site of Cherokee Family Medical Center (formerly Piedmont Physicians Woodstock), a two story medical building at 9766 Highway 92.  The parcel is just under one acre.

The new Whataburger would be situated right beside where Chick-fil-A reopened their Dwarf House restaurant as "Truett's Chick-fil-A" October 7.  The Chick-fil-A restaurant closed March 19 and was originally expected to reopen in August.

ToNeTo Atlanta reported in August that San Antonio, Texas-based Whataburger plans to open a location off Chastain Road near the campus of Kennesaw State University.  Here, Whataburger is replacing a former O'Charley's restaurant.  The planned Kennesaw and Woodstock restaurants are about five and half miles apart.  Earlier this month, we also reported that a second Atlanta area Whataburger is planned for Cumming, just of GA-400, where it will replace a former SunTrust Bank.

Highway 92 - Exit 7 off GA-575 - has been especially active in recent years in terms of restaurant development.  Krispy Kreme opened a new location at 9420 Highway 92 in late 2017 on the site of an abandoned gas station.  This past November, a new Chipotle, with a mobile order pickup "Chipotlane," opened at 9480 Highway 92, while a new Popeyes followed this past November at 9490 Highway 92.  Both new restaurants opened on the site of a former Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

ToNeTo Atlanta is currently tracking several other potential Whataburger locations in the greater metro Atlanta area.

Where would you like to see Whataburger open next?  What is your favorite Whataburger menu item?  Do you think Whataburger is worth the hype?

  1. I don’t understand the big deal with Whataburger. I’ve tried their food a couple of times and deemed it nothing special.

  2. Funny how they are going to opening right next to Chick-fil-A. Think it's a good location for them. Lots of traffic, and easy in and out.

  3. I like Whataburger, not sure it is worth the hype, but they do have good burgers and a decent menu. I would love to see one open in DeKalb county somewhere.

  4. Whataburger is unnecessary and certainly not worth the hype. It is a low end burger joint with "F" grade beef according to consumer reports. We already have Culvers, Cookout, Varsity, Freddies, Steak & Shake, Krystal, Wendys, Burger King, McDonalds, Sonic if you want "F" grade beef. Since it is open 24 hours, guess it's competition will be Waffle House.
