Wawa, the popular chain of convenience stores and gas stations which announced plans this past October to enter the Georgia market, seems to have secured its first location in the state. Newly released planning documents indicate a new Wawa is planned for 1810 S. Georgia Parkway W in Waycross, about four hours south of Atlanta and about ninety minutes north of Jacksonville. The property Wawa would occupy is currently home to Cavagnaro's, a local steak and seafood restaurant.
Wawa, a pioneer in convenience store food offerings, features a robust selection of made-to-order meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. The chain, based in Chester Heights, Pennsylvania in Greater Philadelphia, is perhaps most known for their hoagies but also offers cheesesteaks, deli sandwiches, salads, bowls and breakfast burritos, among other options.
In their release this past October, Wawa indicated its first Georgia store would open in 2024 with the potential for up to 20 additional stores in the market in the years to come. The entrance into Georgia is expected to be centered on south and coastal Georgia with no metro Atlanta units yet. The company also in 2022 announced plans to expand into the Florida Panhandle and south Alabama in 2024, Nashville in 2025 and Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky "sometime after 2025."
Earlier this month the company revealed the first eight of its Florida Panhandle/South Alabama stores including those planned for Pensacola, FL (2), Mobile, AL (2), Daphne, AL, Fairhope, AL (2), and Robertsdale, AL.
In Florida, a market Wawa entered in July 2012 with a location in Orlando near SeaWorld, the company expects to open another sixteen locations by this summer, including one in Boynton Beach that should open in the coming days and mark the chain's 250th unit in the state. Wawa will likely open its 1,000th overall store later this year in one of its existing markets including those across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.
Have you ever been to a Wawa? What convenience store do you think offers the best food? Where else in Georgia would you like to see Wawa open?
Please share your thoughts below.
I'm from Philadelphia. Wawa is a step above anything in the Atlanta area. There's prepared food if you're in a hurry, and they offer made to order sandwiches, smoothies and salads. They have a more extensive dinner menu too after 4:00. The location make sense to me because they expanded heavily into Florida. I guess Atlanta is too far off their distribution lines right now, but I'm hoping that they move this way.
ReplyDeleteI am so freaking excited! I wear my WaWa shirts all the time! ESPECIALLY if I go to the moldy beaver gas station 🤣
DeleteI would love to see one in South Georgia I’m originally from Philly and I miss my wawa
DeleteYou must ain’t been to Bucees… they killing Wawa…
DeleteBuckee's suck. I'm a truck driver but my money isnt good enough at a Buckee's store because trucks are not allowed.
DeleteI live about an hour east of Waycross and a truck driver, so I totally agree. Bucky sucks. And I’m curious why they chose Waycross??? it’s not necessarily on anybody’s way to anything. they might have a larger population but their mean average income is a lot lower than Camden county or Glynn county in Georgia. on I-95 and they see a lot less travelers than Camden or Glenn experience on I 95. and as a local to Camden county, I would welcome a Wawa to my town as the closest alternative is still comparing apples to oranges in the area is Circle K with their new gross deli options and they are not good at all.
DeleteMarietta Please!
DeleteYou must not be a real truck driver if you think Waycross doesn't have thru traffic. Waycross has 4 US Highways and is hub for transportation.
DeleteYou call yourself a truck driver? You are ignorant. South Georgia Parkway in Waycross is a hub for traffic. Stick to driving your truck and not business.
DeleteYup - it's all about the hoagies
ReplyDeleteGo birds
ReplyDeleteConsidering that they shut down all of their locations within the City of Philadelphia because the criminal element routinely destroying their stores, don't expect any locations in Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteThere won’t be any downtown, but yes, metro and OTP Atlanta will get them.
DeleteDoubt it. QuikTrip and Racetrac have a golf on all the good corners.
DeleteAgreed. We need Wawa. I too am from Philadelphia.
ReplyDeleteWe need one in the Tucker/Stone Mountain area!!
ReplyDeleteI love Wawa! Let’s open one soon in coastal Georgia, near the St Simons/Jekyll Island area.
ReplyDeleteHow about one in North Georgia in the Canton Ga area.. visited many stores in New Jersey where my daughter lives, told her we needed one in Canton,Ga

DeleteMy wawa dreams has came true I just want to cry!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt’s easy to verify via their website that Wawa currently operates around 20 stores in the city of Philadelphia. So no, they didn’t shut them all down. Nice try though.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see them put one in Stone Mountain
ReplyDeleteI hope so I’m from south jersey

ReplyDeleteMetro Atlanta needs Wawa !!! Cobb !!
ReplyDeleteWawa is awesome! Might be a big ask, but the Alpharetta/Cumming area in Georgia would be great and is a fast growing residential and business area
ReplyDeleteI lived in Philly also. Please come to Atlanta
ReplyDeleteCan we plz get one near ATLANTA????
ReplyDeleteGainesville Georgia is ripe for the picking , the best place I would recommend would be limestone and Jessy jewel , secondary would of course be the old Ryan's steakhouse lot .
ReplyDeleteWawa is the best. Love the coffees and sandwiches are great also. We would live one in the Atlanta area particularly the Brookhaven area!
ReplyDeleteYes I’m from Philly and live in Dunwoody. Brookhaven would be a great location or Dunwoody and Chamblee
DeleteBeing from Jersey originally, then Delaware, I always stop in when I’m back home to visit a Wawa! Good food and coffee! We need them on 75. If they are going to Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana , it’s just a shot down 75 to Atlanta. And when I’m in the Orlando area, yup, gotta go there too. Before we sold our trailer in WPB area, they were there too. And with the influx of us “Yankees,” it’s just a matter of time b4 they are here. Now, let’s get TD bank down here. They are in NC, SC, and Florida.
ReplyDeleteCumming Ga would be a perfect fit for the Wawa family.
ReplyDeleteWe need one in Cumming!!!
ReplyDeleteLike to see one come to Douglas GA
ReplyDeleteWill one be coming to Douglas GA?
ReplyDeleteWawa iced tea that’s all I’m going to say. 😎
ReplyDeletePlease put one in Gainesville!!! This Pennsylvania girl wants a good hoagie and would do anything for a morning Wawa coffee!
ReplyDeleteWow, and I thought only Whataburger fans foamed at the mouth.
ReplyDeleteWinder area would be great
ReplyDeleteWe could use one on the drive from Atlanta to Florida pan handle’!! There is nothing!!!!
ReplyDeleteWaWa is needed in Atlanta. Food “from a gas station” never tasted so good! Coffee is awesome too. Lived in Philly and Virginia. These places are awesome. Cheap gas and great food + coffee. Buc-ees is an interstate experience but WaWa is a weekly / daily routine.
ReplyDeleteI go way out of my way to stop at WaWa here in SoFlo.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't have a bobble-head of Baba Wawa on a shelf, there, I'm moving on down to Buc-Cee's for some armadillo jerky.
ReplyDeleteValdosta Georgia which is on your way to Florida
ReplyDeleteBuccees and Wawa are overrated. I will stick with the quick trip
ReplyDeleteEast of Atlanta between Covington and Madison Ga would be great 👍
ReplyDeleteI went to my 5th grade field trip at Wawa dairies. Since then I've moved to Florida, been to most locations here, jersey shore,as well as Lodi,Nj is 19 miles from LaGuardia,Route 13,Norfolk, Va.
ReplyDeleteGreat sub's,friendly service,cheap gas.
I have a Wawa cap,cup & card!
Wawa would be healthy competition for all others except the bucee’s superstores.
ReplyDeleteA simple google search about Wawa stores closing down and/or limiting hours in the City of Philly due to the demographics will show to you that they're not coming anywhere close to Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteWe really need one in Gainesville Georgia......They offer the best of everything.Especially the coffee......
ReplyDeleteI’ve lived without Wawa since I moved here in 2004 and always stopped when back up north. Need to get my meatball fix. Come to Savannah.
ReplyDeleteAcworth, just off I-75 on GA Hwy 92, there’s a huge parcel of land available in front of Cabela’s.
ReplyDeleteI believe one will be GREAT in Folkston, GA! We have no good gas stations and Wawa smoothies are THE BEST!
ReplyDeleteWhen they gonna get 1 in SC 7-11 is in Myrtle Beach how about a Wawa
ReplyDeleteYes!! I’m from N.J .put one by the Atlanta motor speedway!!! Business will POP there!!! Better be quick all the land around it is being sold!!!! It will definitely bring in some profits there!
ReplyDeleteI always loved wawa . I’m 54 now and lived in Ga. For 20 yrs. When asked if I miss anything in N.J .? It’s always the same answer WaWa and the shore !
Sad to see so many people get so excited over a convenience store/gas station. Your existence must be very bleak.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see another flavor of convenience store set up shop in the state. Visited Wawa in trips to the NE and found the stores to be clean and I did not consume any of the prepared foods.
ReplyDeleteIn the past QT was my go to store for fuel and drinks. My job involved traveling all over the south and Midwest. This changed when my employer had Costco in one day for a demo and I signed up for a card.
The item that moved me away from QT was being turned down for a gas card. My credit at the time was very good.
I have stopped in QT in the Metro Atlanta area and found the restrooms to be dirty. smelly and the floors are wet. That kills any idea of picking up a snack or a drink at QT.
.
Costco fuel pumps open up early in the morning and the area around the fuel islands are clean.
Please please please bring a WaWa to the Kennesaw area. I’m originally from South Jersey and I miss WaWa so much. I grew up on their coffee and hoagies!
ReplyDeleteCobb county please! We need a Wawa close to Kennesaw/Acworth area. Buc-ees is too far and Wawa subs are unmatched from anything around here! I lived in CT and NJ and I also miss Wawa so much! It is a must have every time I am in Orlando!!!
ReplyDeletePLEASE OPEN A WAWA IN NEWNAN,GA 🥺PLEASE
ReplyDeleteSo glad we getting something new in Waycross. We sit right in middle of all major highway to Atlant, Jacksonville. Valdosta ,heading to the Carolinas Savannah etc
ReplyDeleteWill be a great asset.
FYI, you can now get your steak with whiz now.
ReplyDeletePlease come to Henry County mcdonough area
ReplyDeleteWe need a Wawa here near Cumming GA. This is a growing area and would be good for a Wawa.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I live in Henry County and love WaWa as I am originally from Baltimore, we do not need any more gas stations. I travel a lot for work, so I would love to see a couple of WaWas on Interstate 16. One would also be great between Augusta and Covington on Interstate 20 as well.
ReplyDeleteALL I HAVE TO SAY IS ABOUT TIME!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm from Philly but now live in Georgia, near Fort Gordon Army Base. Thank you for hearing my prayers. I'm so excited. Now I don't have to wait until I visit with family in Philadelphia/Virginia and Maryland. BIG THANKS
ReplyDeleteI-675 & Hwy 23/42 in Henry county and/or Jodeco Rd/I-75. The other Henry county exits are overwrought with gas stations. Gosh I miss Wawa's 💚
