[EXCLUSIVE] Hot Betty's Secures New Spot in Stone Mountain

A popular breakfast joint is finally resurfacing.  Hot Betty's Breakfast Bar, which opened on Main Street in Tucker in 2020 and abruptly closed in September 2022 due to a reported rent dispute, is reopening in Stone Mountain!

The new Hot Betty's will open in Stone Mountain Square, a large shopping center along Stone Mountain Highway (Highway 78) anchored by Marshalls, ROSS Dress For Less, Bealls Outlet and Big Lots, among others.  Longtime area residents, especially those with kids that grew up in the 90s, may know the center as being home to one of metro Atlanta's Discovery Zone locations.

Hot Betty's will open in a nearly 5,000 square foot outparcel building beside existing eatery Stone Mountain Pizza Cafe.  A business filing from 2022 indicates that something called "Phoenix Smoke Shop & Lounge" was to have opened in the space but seemingly never did.  Online research suggests the space's earlier tenant, a local Re Max real estate office, closed at least fifteen years ago with the suite having sat vacant in the years since.

The new Hot Betty's - at 5370 Stone Mountain Highway - would be more than double the size of the original location at 2316 Main Street which measured about 2,100 square feet.  In addition to more interior space, the new Hot Betty's will also have a 400 square foot patio complete with bocce ball, cornhole and other outdoor games.

The former Tucker outpost, situated in The Shops at Tucker Depot alongside popular local eatery Local 7, remains vacant, but a new location of PERC Coffee is opening next door.  Hot Betty's Stone Mountain is about seven miles and 15 minutes from the previous Tucker location.

In 2021, Hot Betty's owner Shea Powell announced that she had bought Tucker House, the famous yellow cottage at the corner of Lynburn Drive and Lawrenceville Highway, with plans to turn it into a restaurant.  The costs of converting the building to a restaurant were reportedly significantly higher than expected and those plans never materialized.

Powell, a resident of Smoke Rise, a community between Tucker and Stone Mountain, had hoped to reopen her restaurant in Tucker, but those plans fell through.  In Stone Mountain Square she found a larger space and plenty of parking still within a short drive of her former Main Street spot.

In an interview this week with ToNeTo Atlanta, Powell also indicated she plans to offer more dinner options and feature late night options, too.  Select breakfast items will be served all day.

Hot Betty's original Executive Chef is not involved in the new location, with Powell telling ToNeTo Atlanta that she is actively looking to hire for the position.

Not far from Hot Betty's, Fuqua Development is looking to create a mixed-use project that is likely to include a Costco and Whataburger, among other things, on land previously home to a large tennis facility used in the 1996 Olympics.   The new restaurant is also around the corner from Netherworld and about three miles from Stone Mountain Park.

If all goes according to plan, Powell hopes to have the new Hot Betty's open by March.

Are you excited to see Hot Betty's returning?  If you made it to their Tucker location, what was your favorite menu item?  What kinds of things would you like to see offered on the expanded dinner menu at Hot Betty's?

  4. Sadly, I fear it won't have the same attraction that it did before. The prices were really too high, but it was "trendy" so the hipsters packed it out. In the new location they'll be catering to the Waffle House crowd who may not pay the higher prices.

  5. Of course hubby and I loved breakfast there but also had a romantic Valentine’s dinner there and hope Betty’s will have special events like that in the front window sofas

  7. Good PR piece for Hot Betty's. You should research the entire story before publishing though. The facts that include not paying rent (not a "dispute"), not paying creditors or employees. New employees need to know how the previous employees were treated before agreeing to work.

  14. Overrated! I have eaten at the old location twice and both times the food was ok at best. The eggs and potatoes were warm not hot but warm. Little season. Very disappointed. Service was slow and server attitude was everywhere. Asked for new silverware because the one that was given still had grease on it and got attitude. I just know she rolled her eyes when she turned around. Didn't ask for refills because we were ready to go. We will not be visiting the the new restaurant because like the potatoes they left a bad taste in my mouth. Next!

    1. The potatoes at Hot Betty’s were amazing. You sound like you just have an ax to grind. You think the server rolled her but you couldn’t see it? Calm down!

  15. This was extremely poorly researched. The owner didn’t pay her rent or her employees, and youguys are writing this puff piece? Wow.

    2. Agree. I lost my salary and was expected to run an entire restaurant while trying to make money as a server or a bartender

  16. Well. Good luck with that.

  17. The comment section did not disappoint. I’m glad there are people on here that know the truth about the “rent dispute.” Where does the owner get all of her $$ from? Who would back such a thing after everything that happened with the old location?

  20. I worked as a server before I graduated and they were not nice. It's true that the money was tight and I was living off of my tips. The food was nothing spectacular. I was amazed at how many people said it was delicious. It actually cracked me up. Be nice to your servers or you may get a dirty finger/lips on your food. Oops.

    3. Karma will follow her because she told the truth ? The two owners ran that place into the ground. The first problem was their alcoholic behavior while in the establishment. I'm sure that led to a big part of their downfall.

  24. Ate at the Tucker location once. Not a fan and never went back. Weirdest 'biscuits' I ever tasted. Will not go to the new location. Only heard bad things.

  25. Both owners (Shae and Wes) in Tucker were raging alcoholics. I stopped working on weekend nights because they were hanging out drinking behind the small bar and I was unable to do my job. It was super frustrating to me. The owner of a business should never be inside of their business drinking with customers. Especially when they are in the way of the employees trying to serve those customers. I was not shocked one bit when this place closed. Thankfully I got out before it got really really bad. I wish her luck ,but until she puts down the alcohol and stops bullshitting people, she will not be successful
