If you had more Trader Joe's stores on your holiday wish list, you're in luck! We have heard rumblings for more than a year that the popular boutique grocer was looking to add to its metro Atlanta presence and that smoke seems to have some fire now.
Forsyth County News (FCN) this week reported it received confirmation from Trader Joe's that they plan to open a new store in Alpharetta. The grocer reportedly declined to identify the exact location but FCN along with ToNeTo Atlanta both suspect the store is planned for phase 2 of Halcyon off Exit 12 in Forsyth County.
Documents reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta indicate that Halcyon developer RocaPoint Partners was earlier this year working with Forsyth County on some additional land use entitlements for the development of a "high-end, extremely desirable national retailer." The developer indicated that there was a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place that precluded them from naming the retailer.
Real estate sources with whom ToNeTo Atlanta spoke both over the summer (when we first heard of the Alpharetta store), and more recently, indicate that the size of the store and the secrecy surrounding it are indications of a Trader Joe's store.
Monrovia, California-based Trader Joe's opened its first stores in metro Atlanta in October 2006. Today the company operates a total of six stores in metro Atlanta - Midtown, Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Peachtree Corners and East Cobb - with a seventh Georgia store in Athens which opened in late 2010.
By comparison, Aldi, which has owned Trader Joe's since 1979, operates 78 stores across Georgia. [Aldi in the U.S. is operated by "Aldi Süd" while Trader Joe's is owned by "Aldi Nord" with both divisions tracing their roots to brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht.] That said, the excitement of an Aldi opening in a neighborhood pales in comparison to news that Trader Joe's is coming.
ToNeTo Atlanta has been in existence for more than fifteen years, and in our nearly 4,000 posts, Trader Joe's is the most frequently mentioned name when readers respond to what should replace x, y, or z, even if x, y, or z are a former Mattress Firm, a Burger King or a Walmart.
According to a source close to Trader Joe's, the new stores planned for Georgia are: "in the Halcyon area of south Forsyth County, " "in the Peachtree City area," 2 to 3 "in the Atlanta area," and one "in the Decatur area."
Aside from the Halcyon phase two location, ToNeTo Atlanta is confident in its identification of at least two of the other sites including one near Decatur and another near Atlanta but are not publishing for now as we await confirmation.
If Trader Joe's does open in the above referenced locations, do you think Atlanta will have enough stores? What potential upcoming Trader Joe's store are you most excited about? What is your favorite Trader Joe's item?
Please share your thoughts below.
P.S. - If anyone from Trader Joe's sees this, please bring back the cinnamon babka!
When are they opening in the old Drug Emporium/Michaels on Piedmont by Miami Circle? When does Michaels move into the old Cubs/Bennies and Office Depot?
ReplyDeleteYes! Inquiring minds want to know.
DeleteSmyrna/Vinings Ga is a key spot for Trader Joes!
DeletePLEASE SMYRNA/VININGS!!!!
DeleteWe need a Trader Joe’s south of Atlanta, Peachtree City or Newnan area. Begging, please!!
DeleteNear Decatur!!! 🎇🎇🎆🎆🎆
ReplyDeleteActually, the ALDI in the U.S. is not the same as the ALDI that operates Trader Joe's. They both stem from the same family business in Germany but split into two separate groups: ALDI Nord and ALDI Süd. ALDI stores in the U.S. are run by ALDI Süd, while Trader Joe's is operated by ALDI Nord. Despite their common origins, they function as distinct and independent entities today.
ReplyDeleteBut many items are found in both stores just in different packages or labels
Delete80% of TJ’s food is highly processed packaged products and high in salt, calories and fat
ReplyDeleteThe don’t eat it - simple resolution
DeleteThen don't go there. Get a life and mind your own business.
DeleteIt’s great food and value. If you don’t like it - don’t buy it.
DeleteIf you choose to buy it. They offer a ton of unprocessed nuts, whole grains, oils, vegetables, personal grooming, eggs, dairy, etc... at the lowest prices in town. Those are mostly what I buy there. It's not their fault that many people like the less healthy stuff. All grocery stores offer lots of processed food.
DeleteAGREE - DON'T GO !!!
DeleteFayette County is begging for you to come!! Please heart us!
DeleteTrader Joe's, please come to McDonough, GA
DeleteProcessing food heavily just shows they care.
DeleteWest Cobb Marietta GA needs a Trader Joes
DeleteHoping Braselton can snag them for a location.
ReplyDelete🤚 I second that!
DeletePlease yes! Come north...
DeleteBraselton would be a prefect location. You have château across the street which is full of people who would love to shop at TJ’s! Not including all the new neighborhoods that are going in around the area.
DeleteBuford, Lawrenceville, Braselton area!
DeleteReally hoping that Braselton gets one. This area is growing by leaps and bounds, hence the new Aldi. I would way prefer TJ
DeleteYes to Buford brasleton Area!
DeleteDecatur!
DeleteHeard Braselton is getting one. Rumor only bcuz after talking to someone that would definitely know, no it’s not happening
DeleteAwesome from Peachtree city 😃
DeleteWell if we can’t get one opened up in Newnan,Ga at least Peachtree city isn’t but about an 10-15 minute ride!! We’ll take it!!!!
DeleteDunwoody will be a huge market
ReplyDeleteThere is one in Sandy Springs, just outside Dunwoody
DeleteYes we need a Dunwoody location!!!
DeleteYes! Dunwoody please! The old Lidl/sprouts location would be amazing!
DeleteRumors continue to abound that TJs will land at the Avenue Peachtree City. It will do well there.
ReplyDeleteAnd it will make that already hellish intersection even worse
DeleteThere isn’t enough parking at the Avenue. Besides the article said PTC area not in PTC. Won’t it be a hoot if Sharpsburg lands it instead of PTC?😂
DeleteBetter place than the Avenue would be the old K-Mart or Steinmart locations. Fill an empty space!
DeleteYes! Would love it if they would come to the new Fischer Crossing shopping area across from Sam’s and Costco.
DeleteIn Sharpshurg it would be great
DeleteThe empty Kmart would the best . Lots of parking and folks on golf carts can get to it! There are two other similar stores near the Steinmart.
DeleteWould love to get a Trader Joe's in Blue Ridge or Blairsville, GA
DeleteI agree that bringing it to the old Steinmart location in Fayetteville, GA would be a great idea. Another great location would be Mcdonough, GA since it is growing expediently. There is more need mid-town or South of Atlanta.
DeleteEveryone keeps saying it can’t happen at Steinmart due to Publix and won’t happen at KMart due to Kroger. I’ll take it anywhere in the PTC, Sharpsburg, Newnan area!
DeletePeachtree City would be great. Newnan would be even better.
DeleteSharpsburg/Coweta County needs Trader Joe’s! PTC has Sprouts and Fresh Market. It would be exciting to not have to drive to the north side of Atlanta . I even shop TJ when visiting family in Chicago!
DeleteBuford needs one!!
ReplyDeleteI agree !!
DeleteI agree !
DeleteDefinitely a market to come north!!!!
DeleteWoodstock or Canton need one
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Give me a Towne Lake or Bells Ferry location 😁
DeleteI agree Canton needs One
DeleteNo one needs a Trader Joe’s. It is a fine store, but DMY.
ReplyDeleteWe need one in Gwinnett!!! Lawrenceville or Duluth would be a hit!
ReplyDeleteYes please! Or snellville.
DeleteI wrote to Corporate Trader Joe's and requested they look at the closed Sprouts store on P'ree Industrial and Sugarloaf as a possible store location. Finger's crossed!
Deleteabsolutely one in Gwinnett - having to drive from Loganville to either Athens or Norcross is the pits.
DeletePlease build a TJ’s in Snellville!
DeletePlease dear lord open one in Lagrange. It will be a halfway point from Auburn and Atlanta. Lagrange is growing VERY fast with such a need for healthier options!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely no chance they’ll be in Lagrange. Their market requirements for them to even consider a location viable are way higher than Lagrange can provide. I’m glad to hear Lagrange is growing more and hopefully will clean up some of the rough areas.
DeleteColumbus would be the far more realistic option
DeleteIf the local politicians are able to keep a midrise apartment community away, I bet that Trader Joe’s comes to the Oglethorpe Publix location following their move to the Cambridge Square location. I know this whole community Can’t wait for Cambridge Square to be rebuilt up and opened with Publix. It looks like Based on a site map on the Regency centers website that the liquor store and one additional small store will be in its own building next to the drive-through pharmacy. Interestingly, while the site map looks to be very updated, it’s those shows Starbucks in that corner location where it formerly was located. I wonder if Starbucks is just taking a breather and will become part of the all new
ReplyDeleteCambridge Square. So much thanks to our former district one Congress person Linley Jones for helping secure the future plans of Cambridge Square to include expanded retail instead of high density apartments. Especially with Linley not part of the leadership team I’m not sure they will be able to keep high density apartments away from Overthorpe however, if they do, I’d bet Trader Joe’s moves in. Lastly I second the motion for Trader Joe’s to bring back the cinnamon Babka! I personally like chocolate bapka , but cinnamon is great. Bagel licious on Johnson ferry in East Cobb has a good bapka , and they have a good challah!
TLDR
DeleteKennesaw or West Cobb please!!
ReplyDeleteYes!!!!! Please
DeleteYes!! I go to their website and request on a regular basis.
DeleteSame! I request one for either Smyrna, Kennesaw, West Cobb Marietta, and Downtown Marietta. Any of those locations would be good enough for me! I’m in Powder Springs.
DeleteYes!! Go ahead and take over the Bed Bath & Beyond on Barrett....
DeleteTUCKER!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Tucker/Northlake area, please!
DeletePlease consider Valdosta, GA!
ReplyDeleteYes we need one in the metro Valdosta area
DeleteWe need one in West Cobb. It takes me 40 minutes to drive to the East Cobb location, which isn’t worth it to me. West Cobb would be a great location!!!
ReplyDeleteThey would make so much money in West Cobb
DeleteYes, West Cobb!!!
DeleteYes!! The Barrett Bed, Bath, and Beyond would be a great location!
DeleteYes please Decatur. Just not the city of Decatur, as traffic and parking will
ReplyDeleteBe an issue just like at Lennox and midtown.
Went to Trader Joes a few times. Never saw any reason to go back. I believe there's a huge percentage of the readers of this blog that simply are too lazy to cook. Always clamoring for fast food restaurants and places like TJs, where they can consume over salted garbage loaded with empty calories.
ReplyDeleteWOW, stirred up yet!
DeleteDon’t go there then. Who cares? Your money won’t make any difference to them. Stay home and cool weeds and roaches from your back yard for your dinner.
DeleteThen don't go and don't worry about what other people eat.
DeleteI cook everything. I rarely eat pre-made food. I buy most produce at actual farmer's markets. TJ's is a great, affordable resource for basics (nuts, dairy, grains, oils, etc). If you cook, you still go to grocery stores, and they all offer processed foods.
DeleteWest Cobb could definitely use a Trader Joe's. The fastest growing area in metro Atlanta, and all other grocers are already here!
ReplyDeleteYes West Cobb!
DeleteYes to West Cobb! I live in the area and it’s crazy to think that the Sandy Springs location takes a little less time for me to get to than the East Cobb location.
DeletePlease Please open in Halcyon!!! We really need a Trader Joe's in north Atlanta!!
ReplyDeletePLEASE PUT ONE IN SMYRNA
ReplyDeleteSMYRNA PLEASE!
ReplyDeletePLEASE COME TO SMYRNA/ VININGS!!!!!
DeleteSomewhere north Georgia, Canton, Woodstock, Cumming or Dawsonville.
ReplyDeleteDawsonville doesn't have nearly the population density, or even the consumer taste, that a successful TJ's needs. Not an insult...I grew up there and all my family lives there still. They all think I cook weird food. Lol. Maybe Woodstock, though?
DeleteReally would love one in camp creek area
ReplyDeleteYesssss!
DeleteWest Cobb needs Trader Joe’s desperately.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when this blog asks the question "where would you like to see...". ?Never again will I take the bait and read the responses.
ReplyDeleteBuford please!
ReplyDeleteWest midtown please!!
ReplyDeleteSavannah ga please!!
ReplyDelete👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
DeleteWest Cobb- in the avenue at west cobb!
ReplyDeleteSmyrna please! Or Somewhere on the west side!
ReplyDeleteSmyrna, GA PLEASE!! Shocked there isn’t a TJ’s here yet! Since the Braves moved to the area - it’s booming!
ReplyDeleteWest Cobb!! Smyrna/Vinings!!
ReplyDeleteYes! Vinings/Smyrna! I have to drive to Sandy Springs through all the construction. Takes forever
DeleteOmg I would just die if they came to Smyrna/vinings!!! We are in desperate need of it!!!
DeleteMy god, please make your way to Henry county. People beg for Trader Joe’s down there
ReplyDeleteTucker, GA Please!!!!
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE PLEASE build one in Cedarcrest (paulding county) or surrounding area to Seven Hills community. It would make a killing and there is a ton of opportunity out here. My husband and I seriously considered seeing how we could open one.
ReplyDeletehow about Alma?
ReplyDeleteWe need an Aldi in the Dawsonville, Georgia area desperately. We also need a Trader Joe’s in either Dawsonville or Gainesville, Georgia area. I lived in Roswell and just moved to these areas, and miss Aldi and Trader Joe’s.
ReplyDeleteYES! Gainesville, Dawsonville, even Braselton. I live in North Hall county near Murrayville and drive 70 plus minutes each way to shop at the closest TJs every few weeks.
DeletePeachtree City!!! We need a Trader Joe’s south of the perimeter! 🎉
ReplyDeleteWife loves Trader Joe’s, I don’t really get the appeal, they don’t have everything we needs so have to hit Kroger anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe would love a Trader Joe's in Woodstock, GA! I love their cheeses, their salmon, and the chocolate babka.
ReplyDeleteCamp Creek or Cascade area please.
ReplyDeleteCanton!!
ReplyDeleteBolton residents would support having a TJ especially with a billion under construction, next to the river and next to Buckhead
ReplyDeleteNeed one in Canton, GA
ReplyDeleteCome southeast in Georgia, Augusta needs a TJ's !!! Please!
ReplyDeleteNewnan...definitely would be an excellent place...there's lots of money new and old..its growing fast...and lots of lots of homes townhouses and apartments being built
ReplyDeleteAugusta Ga
ReplyDeleteThe Braselton area can support one with ease! 🤓
ReplyDeletePlease come to Stockbridge, Ga! We have been asking for one in Henry County for years! We are open for business! Sincerely,
ReplyDeleteLG
We definitely need one SOMEWHERE in Henry County. I miss Trader Joe's so bad.
DeleteYes, in McDonough, GA would be nice.
DeleteBraselton please
ReplyDeletePlease give Stonecrest a try! Would love to have a TJ's here.
ReplyDeleteGainesville GA please!!!
ReplyDeleteBitch, please.
ReplyDeleteWow
DeleteGainesville!
ReplyDeleteConyers or Covington Please!
ReplyDeletePlease come to Savannah.
ReplyDeleteWest Cobb, Smyrna
ReplyDeleteStonecrest
ReplyDeleteWe could really use a JCPenneys in Carrollton!
ReplyDelete@ Anon December 18, 2023 at 6:39 PM Re: Dawsonville
ReplyDeleteLidl had the corner where Olive Garden/Outback/Millers/Whataburger are under contract for over a year before they punted thinking that the great folks of Dawsonville weren't worth their time. I'll bet they regret that decision now.
we really need help in N ga
ReplyDeleteellijay or blueridge
Smyrna or Vinings for the love of pete!
ReplyDeleteWould do well and be very popular in Cumming GA.
ReplyDelete@trader Joe's we need a store in mcdonough or stockbridge or Locust grove georgia please.

ReplyDeleteVilla Rica or Carrollton, please!!! This area would greatly appreciate Trader Joe's!! Publix is moving, so space is aleady available
ReplyDeletePlease do! Tried of driving an hour to get to one!!! Villa Rica!

I make a 45 minute drive to TJ about twice a month, I live the organic produce, frozen goods, flowers and so much more! I would love to have a TJ in Conyers! Please consider. There is an ALDIs, I prefer TJ. Please, please consider, Consider Conyers, GA.
ReplyDeleteSavannah!! In the old Lucky’s Market building!
ReplyDeleteCANTON PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteCanton Cherokee County .
ReplyDeleteHalcyon in Forsyth is NOT Alpharetta. I don't know why they insist on calling it that. It's a totally different zip code and different county than Alpharetta, which is in Fulton County.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I would love to see a Trader Joe's in actual Alpharetta, Milton or Johns Creek. The nearest one to these areas is down in Roswell. There is an Aldi up in Milton, but Trader Joe's is very different and would do well in this area.
City of Buford is in hall and Gwinnett county and further addresses do not constitute being in the city limits.
DeleteIt’s how it is addressed w the usps
Part of Alpharetta is in Forsyth County
DeleteWould be AWESOME to have one in Covington…
ReplyDeleteTowne Lake / Woodstock / Bells Ferry at 92!!
ReplyDeleteCartersville!!
ReplyDeleteWe need one in Henry County either Stockbridge or McDonough.
ReplyDeleteDawsonville or anywhere north Forsyth or south Dawson county!!
ReplyDeleteCan we get one in Kennesaw please?!?!
ReplyDeleteHave they considered Gainesville or Dawsonville - we live in Gainesville & would welcome one up here. We have lived up here 22 years & it has grown in leaps & bounds. We sure have plenty of desirable property they could go into.
ReplyDeleteDawsonville is really growing fast too. You wouldn’t believe construction up there either.
Years ago there was talk that TJ was coming to Gainesville but then all of a sudden we didn’t hear anymore about it. Instead we got Aldi which I like but TJ offers so much more.
Please please we need one I. The Hamilton Mills area of Gwinnett county. We all have been waiting for years. Norcross and Athens are almost an hour for all of us
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Hamilton Mill area!
ReplyDeleteCan you please bring one to Middle Georgia please. Preferably Warner Robins PLEEEEEEASE
ReplyDeletePlease open in Akers Mill Square - lots of empty retail and easy parking! There is not any close by competition except for a tiny Sprouts and an ancient Kroger…
ReplyDeletePlease open in Akers Mill Square - lots of empty retail and easy parking! There is not any close by competition except for a tiny Sprouts and an ancient Kroger…
ReplyDeleteA TJ location on Scenic Hwy in Snellville would be awesome! It can replace the Bed, Bath & Beyond that went out of business. The area is booming and so many businesses have been coming to the area. Though that has caused more traffic on Hwy 124, I enjoy not having to go to the city for certain things.
ReplyDeleteNordstrom Rack is going in the former Bed, Bath & Beyond.
DeleteHalcyon please!
ReplyDeleteAny update to the trader Joe's near Decatur?
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE a Tader Joe’s in Peachtree City or Newnan. I love all of your fresh ready mixed veggies, salads, the butter squash cut ready to air fry, your chicken salad. Everything in the produce area. Please we need you here!
ReplyDeleteHow about a Trader Joe’s in Middle GA? Macon or Warner Robins would be good
ReplyDeleteI'd love one along the Southside beltline trail
ReplyDeleteWe could use one or two in West Marietta near downtown and further west in Cobb. Right now from the city of Marietta I have to drive to far east Cobb to shop at Trader Joe's.
ReplyDeleteAny update to the location near Decatur?
ReplyDeleteWhoever said west midtown needs to stop being lazy and just go to Piedmont location. We need one Kennesaw/West Cobb! We have Whole Foods and Sprouts - come on!
ReplyDeleteWell it seems like the whole west side of Ga has been forgotten when it comes to Trader Joe’s. A Cherokee or Paulding county location would be nice .
ReplyDeleteWe need a TJ’s in Braselton! It would do so well here.
ReplyDelete
