[ALERT] The Revolving Door of Restaurants Continues at TOWN Brookhaven

TOWN Brookhaven has seen more than its fair share of business failures in its sixteen year history.  ToNeTo Atlanta has over the years reported on more than two dozen closures including Slack's Hoagie Shack, Yogurtland, Which Wich, Copper Coin Coffee, Swirll Frozen Yogurt, The Cup, Tre'za, Boneheads, Lucky's Burger & Brew, Stir Crazy, Smash, Noche, Jefe's, Baci, PizzaFire, Harken Health, and Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub, to name a few.

It seems that not one, but two more restaurants have quietly closed at the mixed-use development.  The Wing Guru and Urban Wok have closed their respective restaurants at the development along Peachtree Road in Brookhaven.  We took note of the closures in recent weeks but sources in the area suggest the closures occurred months ago.

The Wing Guru, a Memphis-based eatery, opened in a 2,489 square foot space near Moe's at the front of the complex in 2022.  The wing joint occupied a space that had earlier housed Tanaka Ramen & Noodle Bar and before that, Boneheads Grill.

Strangely, a new advertisement for TOWN Brookhaven's holiday events in local publication Simply Buckhead still lists The Wing Guru as a current tenant. (Urban Wok is noticeably absent from the ad.)

Urban Wok reportedly closed earlier this year after being sold in early 2023 by original franchisee Artimus Hart.  The Asian-inspired restaurant first opened in December 2020 in a 1,299 square foot space previously home to Olive Bistro.  The Brookhaven location was to be the first of several from the Minnesota-based franchise.

Opening in place of Urban Wok is a new eatery from Chef Robert Gayle of Chef Rob's Cafe & Bar in Sandy Springs.  Gayle, a native of Jamaica, opened his first restaurant in Parkside Shops in 2006.  Designed to be a smaller, simpler version of Gayle's original sit-down restaurant, Jerks Caribbean Grill will feature a variety of classic Caribbean dishes in a fast-casual format.  According to signage at the space, dining can expect "Contemporary Caribbean Cuisine, but fast."

Jerks Caribbean Grill will join newly opened art studio franchise Hawaii Fluid Art as new businesses in TOWN Brookhaven.  Based in Texas, Hawaii Fluid Art is an interactive art studio for all ages and experience levels.  In addition to Brookhaven, Hawaii Fluid Art also has a location in Johns Creek.

Coming next year to TOWN Brookhaven is Club Studio, a new upscale fitness center from Fitness International, the owners of LA Fitness.  The former LA Fitness in TOWN Brookhaven closed August 25 and is currently undergoing an extensive remodel with plans to reopen sometime next summer/fall.

Do you frequent shops or restaurants at TOWN Brookhaven?  Are you pleased with the new additions to TOWN Brookhaven?  What retailers or restaurants would you most like to see open in TOWN Brookhaven?

  1. I frequently went to the Old Blind Dog & Lucky’s but since the closed, I rarely go to that area anymore.

  2. Town Brookhaven has been a disappointment. Somehow the Avalon manages to keep restaurants open. I realize it’s not the same exact concept. But they have higher quality drinking and dining. Brookhaven is in need of that.

    1. Avalon had overpriced restaurants. They need a Taco Bell

    2. They have a nice Taco Bell down the road from Avalon on Main St.

  3. I think Brookhaven is in desperate need for a GOOD sandwich, salad, soup place, Breadwinner (Sandy Springs) Never Enough Thyme (Alpharetta) or deli like Gruby’s. These places pack people in every day. But there is nothing around here.

  4. North Decatur resident here, we go to the Costco and then have to go home with the groceries, so TOWN Brookhaven is never a destination for us. And the Urban Wok location is particularly doomed because by the time you see it you're already committed to leaving the shopping center, there's no turnout to go park.

  5. And those businesses will soon be the source of another similar article. To the Caribbean restaurant...good luck...but your branding makes no sense. Nothing in the Caribbean is trying to be "fast". Just let people enjoy your food.

Also damn, 26 Thai has some terrible locations. Town Brookhaven and Main Street Uptown Lindbergh whatever the hell it's called.

  6. Owner operated is what's needed. Look at There Gastropub, 14 years in that complex and the owner is the guy who actually runs it.

  7. “Ghost Town” Brookhaven simply isn’t a destination spot. I go to Costco and that’s about it. The monument's at the entrances don’t even have accurate names of businesses.

  8. Town Brookhaven is poorly designed. The main street is not vehicle-friendly and parking is difficult. The intersections are confusing and dangerous. As a previous commenter wrote, once someone drives past a restaurant, there is nowhere to park and it's easier to just keep driving to a development that is more welcoming.

  9. With the terrible parking situation, why go there?

  10. Costco shopping, then lunch at Newks.

  11. It is the parking, What a cluster. Also, the comment about needing an owner - operator is definitely something that helps in that location. But still the parking is the main reason I never want to go there. Horrible design!!!!

  12. I think the rents are too high for an owner operated place, but agree we need more of those type restaurants and less of the ones "based in Dallas with 73 locations"

  13. From outward appearances, the property manager/leasing company make zero effort to conserve or retain tenants. Just too many businesses, and not just restaurants, up and leave without apparent notice. Sad.

  14. All we need is Costco, Publix and Marshals. Make the rest a parking lot

  15. I only live about 15 minutes from Town Brookhaven & rarely go. It's all about parking to me and it's a hassle. And the layout is awkward.

  16. I've lived here for 10 years nd see the same cars parked all day. Only guess is the employees take up much of the best spots.
Re restaurants that don't make it - usually thefood and service is the culprit. Of you have good food and service, people show up. Exception Old Blind Dig and Luckys. Miss them. 26 Thai is good but crazy $$

    1. More stroke affected speech. Must be that otherwise its mocking a buffoonish manner of speech, racist. Surprisingly it’s allowed on this blog to post this racist trash.

  18. Why is nobody talking about real facts? 90 % of the traffic of this center goes to Costco and about 70% of them leave with a hot dog or slice of Pizza from Costco. Stop trying to make anything happen there.

    1. Guilty as charged. There’s been more than a few times over the years when I’ve headed to Town Brookhaven on a Costco run with plans to grab a bite at Luckies, There or Old Blind Dog and end up leaving with a Costco dog.

  19. Putting a Costco in the same development was the kiss of death. You either go out to eat, or you go to Costco. You rarely do both.

  20. Terrible parking and traffic flow. The Jamaican place wont make it, I went to the one in Sandy Springs, felt uncomfortable, service was meh. Didnt eat there but there isnt enough of a market for Jamaican food. I like the new coffee spot Costa coffee but only stop when a space is open outside.

  21. Maybe Towne Brookhaven should not have had that kind of concept. I lived there when the Peachtree Garden Apartment were on the property. It used to be military housing in the late 50s/60s. Perhaps that area should have had a luxury apartment complex/condos/upscale housing. I don't think that area was suited for major retail. From what I understand the Peachtree Garden owner got an offer too good to refuse to sell the land the apartments were on and took it.

  22. I think the property manager needs to focus on attracting smaller, locally operated businesses, especially with restaurants. Generic eateries are not a draw.

  23. The owner of the land where Town Brookhaven sits on where the Peachtree Garden Apartments was got a $1M offer for the land and decided to go for it. I lived at PG for about 5 years until the crime got so bad I decided to leave. The demographic for Town Brookhaven is not the same residents that actually live in the area area and the presence of the nearby MARTA station sure doesn't help either

  24. Went to Costco in Town Brookhaven this morning, it really is insane how many vacant storefronts they have. Just a shame, poor management by the landlord I guess. Just heard their other complex in Dunwoody (Perimeter Village?), where Walmart was is nearly vacant as well. The City of Dunwoody is trying to make the property manager take corrective measures.
