Taylor'd Bar-B-Q is closing after more than four years in business. The barbecue restaurant, located at 2759 E. College Avenue in Avondale Estates, opened July 17, 2020 and survived the pandemic, but apparently could not survive multiple government projects that have negatively impacted their business.
"This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for the past 4.5 years of serving you at Taylor’d Bar-B-Q. We had a fantastic start to 2024, achieving our best month ever in May. However, our sales have significantly declined since then, first due to the DeKalb Water Project in June and then the Avondale road diet project in July, which is currently estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2026."
The current "road diet" project, described here, is meant to enhance the Avondale Estates area but has seemingly had untended consequences on local businesses in the area.
"After five months of experiencing a 20% drop in sales, we have made the tough decision to close this Sunday, December 1st. We will be open during the following hours this weekend: Friday from 4 PM to 9 PM, Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 8 PM or sold out."
McDowell ended by inviting guests in to enjoy his grub one last time and remind everyone to support their local small business.
"We hope to see you for our last weekend. Please remember to support the local small businesses in Avondale; they need your help now more than ever."
In addition to Taylor'd this weekend, other small businesses, specifically restaurants in the area, that could use your support are Vietvana, a Vietnamese eatery, Avondale Pizza Cafe, My Parents' Basement, a comic bookstore, bar & restaurant, and Kafeino, a Modern Greek Diner from Johnny Gianoulidis, owner of The Greek Pizzeria & Gyros in Chamblee.
Do you plan to visit Taylor'd this weekend? Who in Atlanta do you think makes the best barbecue? What is your favorite Avondale Estates restaurant?

Please relocate to Stone mountain festival. There are two spaces available.
ReplyDeleteLeftie Lee's!
ReplyDeleteGyros to go
DeleteI’m really sorry you’re finding it necessary to close permanently. Seems very wrong that you should have to close bc of street work outside of your control. I’ll miss you..
ReplyDeleteDid no one proofread this?
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteOh no 😥 they are my go to favorite . Y’all have been The Best and will be missed. I hope you can have another location soon my friends.
ReplyDeleteStop blaming the construction project. The source of the problem was the quality of your bbq (not good). I rarely saw traffic at this restaurant during the last four years. The business already had to be hanging by a thread.
ReplyDeleteHow long have you been an employee of Avondale Estates city government ?
DeleteSwing and a miss……I’m just a resident calling it as I see it.
DeleteHe’s right the food was tasteless .
DeleteDon't know what you ordered but the burger was great and an incredible deal in today's market. Taylord catered my son's first birthday party and everyone wanted to know where the brisket was from because it was so good. I live in east point so they were too far to get to regularly but we will miss them.
DeleteI’ve gone twice when they were said to be open this final weekend and they were closed ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
ReplyDeleteOld South BBQ in Smyrna is having a difficult time also because of the redesign of Windy Hill.
ReplyDeleteCome to Decatur
ReplyDeleteGreat food and service I loved this place.
ReplyDeleteBoth correct. I stopped there in 2022 wanting some good bbq and was disappointed. The food was indeed bland and tasteless.
ReplyDeleteTime change and people change
ReplyDeleteI’m so sad that you have closed. I bought the same meal every week and miss your brisket, truly the best in town! Thank you for feeding me over the past 3 years!
