[UPDATE] Growing Chicken Chain Makes Georgia Debut in Roswell

After several unexplained delays, Layne's Chicken Fingers is reportedly opening their debut Atlanta area location in Roswell. The new eatery, announced this past July, was at the time expected to open in late October or early November before later being pushed to December.

The restaurant was later removed from the Layne's website and work seemed to stall.  It's unclear what slowed progress or if any behind the scenes changes took place but the Roswell restaurant was returned to the website earlier this year and seems to have opened today is opening to the public this Saturday, April 26, according to ToNeTo Atlanta readers in the area.  (The restaurant does not yet have a phone number listed and has been unresponsive to confirming their opening on their a facebook page.)

Located at 2000 Holcomb Bridge Road in a drive-thru enabled endcap of a newly built strip center (Shops at Alstead), Layne's (established 1994) features a menu similar to Guthrie's (established 1965) and Raising Cane's (established 1996) with a focus on fried chicken tenders, sandwiches, crinkle fries, Texas toast, sweet tea, and lemonade.  As opposed to their larger, more established competitors, Layne's also features the option for "spicy" chicken in addition to a variety of milkshakes.  That said, shakes and spicy chicken are unlikely to be differentiated enough to make Layne's stand out.

When we reported on Layne's Atlanta arrival this past July, the College Station, Texas-based chain was comprised on 17 units with the Atlanta development deal expected to add 18 units in the years to come.

Layne's currently has 26 locations open (including Roswell) with a total of seven more marked  "coming soon" on the company's website.  The chain is still primarily found in Texas with 17 of the company's operating units in its home state.

The Atlanta restaurants are being opened by franchisees Alvin Shah, Shahid Panjwani, and Seth Bickle.  Each partner brings restaurant experience to the group, including prior work owning, managing, or selling restaurant franchises.  Panjwani, who was previously a multi-unit Moe's Southwest Grill franchisee, previously owned the Moe's at 2354 Holcomb Bridge Road in an outparcel of the nearby Kroger-anchored Centennial Village.  At one point, Panjwani planned to relocate the Moe's to the space that Layne's now occupies.  Panjwani quietly closed his Moe's this past January

Despite having only been open a few minutes as of this publication, the restaurant has already amassed 13 five star reviews on Google with many reviews simply using the platform to inquire as to when the business will open.  One review, however, that was incredibly complimentary of the business, even gushing with enthusiasm, was written by someone who shares Shahid's last name and reads like it was created by ChatGPT.

If the food is really "excellent" and the service is really "impeccable," shill reviews should not be needed.

Have you ever heard of or been to Layne's?  Do you think Layne's will find success in metro Atlanta?  What is your favorite restaurant for chicken tenders?

  2. I give this place six months no matter how good or bad it is. The economy Joe Biden left President Trump is going to take decades to recover from. Thank god though that president Trump is making the effort to repair the damage Joe Biden did

  6. Cool, another Guthries/Cane's/Zaxbys clone. Too bad there are no Foosackley's here to add to the chicken finger fun.

    1. by the numbers and comparison to “chicken wing joints “we have very few chicken finger centric restaurants. For One will take more chicken finger restaurants, then the sketchy wing places. And have Proliferated every neighborhood. chicken wings are disgusting. They are 50% thick skin 30% bone 10% sauce and 10% chicken. The small god-awful when they’re frying. Zaxby’s should discontinue the bone and wax and then smell so disgusting in there. Someone failed to mention Super chicks and dunwoody super chicks is actually very very good. Good quality. The place is immaculate. They have great customer service great fries and custard and a unique soft drink and tea selection. They have outdoor seating. The quality of the chicken is very good. It has less salt than all the other competitors and their vendors are huge. I actually like to taste better than that of Chick-fil-A.

  8. Cool story. Just one thing—it wasn’t a fake review. I wrote it with complete authenticity. If you’re curious, feel free to Google my last name—turns out it’s fairly common in my culture. I had the chance to visit the restaurant during their soft opening, where I enjoyed excellent service and truly delicious food. So next time, before launching into conspiracy mode and discrediting someone’s genuine experience, maybe try reaching out and checking the facts first.

  9. Seems like a bunch of keyboard warriors on here. Toneto Atlanta, didn’t realize you were turning into a trashy gossip site. Get facts before you try to spew out nonsense.

  13. It's pretty disingenuous to write a review based upon a soft-opening experience. Of course it was enjoyable - everything was free, the employees were all attending to a small, "elite" group, management and ownership were all on hand to provide support, etc. In other words, nothing like the experience the general public will get when they come visit.

  14. I work near there and pass by it almost daily. It is in a small strip center with only about 5 or 6 businesses located there. A CityVet is next door and at the end is one of those independent coffee shops. I hope they make it but it is doubtful.

  15. Honestly, I thought we didn't need another one, but thinking about my experience at Zaxby's lately, they aren't the same chain they used to be. Food is fried hard, diversifying into that nasty shrimp was horrible, I guess you do need a fresh new brand every so often to get back the quality that you were used to getting.

  16. Zaxbys is the Moes of the chicken finger concepts - worst in class.

  17. Not sure who writes for this publication now, but articles like this are supposed to give objective information devoid of opinion/emotion. Not subjective conjecture. Let the reader interpret. Pretty amateur
