La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant has leased the former On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina in Buckhead, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the transaction.
The freestanding restaurant building (1 Buckhead Loop, Suite 130) occupies a highly visible location at Buckhead Station, a large shopping center anchored by TJ Maxx, DSW, Nordstrom Rack, World Market, Saks OFF FIFTH, Bloomingdale's Outlet, and Old Navy.
According to the Buckhead Station site-plan from owner Regency Centers, the roughly 7,800 square foot restaurant space has "Great Retail Coming Soon," the same verbiage used to describe the roughly 16,000 square foot space beside the Bloomingdale's Outlet where Spirit recently set up for Halloween.
Related: A former On The Border in Buford is being turned into a new Fogo de Chão Brazilian steakhouse while a former On The Border in Kennesaw was rebuilt as a new Portillo's that will "soft open" this weekend.
La Parrilla would be the only restaurant in the Buckhead center.
There is no doubt plenty of work to be done on the dated building, but the new restaurant should open sometime in the second half of 2026.
The new Buckhead La Parrilla would again bring the Atlanta-based chain to 20 locations in the state. The casual Mexican eatery currently operates nineteen locations around the state, including units in Toco Hills, Marietta, Alpharetta, Norcross, Sandy Springs, Woodstock, Newnan, Macon, and Griffin. There is also another La Parrilla on the edge of Buckhead at The District at Howell Mill.
La Parrilla closed its location in Rome last March after ten years in business, and closed in Savannah this past December after about thirteen years in business. The company previously closed a unit in Warner Robins, too.
In addition to Georgia, the company operates a single unit in Dothan, Alabama, and another in Greenville, South Carolina.
Are you a fan of La Parrilla? Are you pleased to see La Parrilla opening Buckhead Station? What type of cuisine do you feel could do well but is unrepresented in Buckhead?

DeleteInteresting fact: La Parilla means "The Hookah" in Spanish.
ReplyDeleteOn the border fell off in every aspect of its business…quality customer service and food was terrible compared to the 2000s era it was time for them to go …. I welcome la Parilla can’t wait for it to open 😊
ReplyDeleteHaven't been to LP very often, but found to be solid, reliable, not a bad deal at all for some of the basic meals (plates with like two tacos/enchiladas, rice and beans).
