Traditional grocers Kroger and Publix have both closed or are closing Atlanta area stores this year. In most cases, the stores that closed were older and smaller in comparison to either brand's stores of today.
The Phoenix-based grocer entered the Atlanta market in 2014 with five stores and today operates seventeen across the state. The company has also closed stores in Dunwoody, Duluth, and Sandy Springs (Chastain Park).
In recent years, the company has brought their smaller format stores to the Atlanta market with new stores in Smyrna, Buford, and Stockbridge. The new stores typically measure about 23,000 square feet compared to older stores, which were 30,000 to 32,000 square feet.
New Sprouts are slated to open beginning next summer in Newnan, Conyers, and Braselton.
The new store planned for Newnan will anchor the renovated and repositioned "Sprouts at Millard Shops" (19 Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard) and will measure 23,256 square feet. Sprouts is projected to open in summer 2026.
In Conyers, Sprouts is opening at Conyers Pointe (1648 Highway 138), an existing center co-anchored by an LA Fitness. The new store will be identical in size to the Newnan store, is also expected to open next summer, and will be joined in the center by a new location of breakfast eatery First Watch.
The Braselton store is also expected to be the same size and will occupy about half of a former Publix at Vineyards at Chateau Elan (2095 Highway 211). Publix relocated to a larger store in the newly opened Braselton Village in September, creating the opportunity for Sprouts to backfill a portion of their former space.
A discount retailer, potentially Ross, is expected to occupy the other half of the former Publix. The Braselton store is likely furthest out and is tentatively slated for late 2026, but it could turn into early 2027, pending construction.
Sources suggest the grocer is actively assessing other potential store locations in and around the greater metro Atlanta area.

I'm not a fan of Sprouts. I live near one that has a steady stream of customers but I don't think their food is that fresh. Publix is my favorite grocery store. I shop at Kroger some.
ReplyDeleteIt's like a more expensive-for-no-reason Trader Joes. I'd rather see one of those.
ReplyDeleteTheir produce is cheap, but also inconsistent. Onions covered in gnats, peppers rotten inside, soft apples. Everything else is pricey.
ReplyDeleteI loved Sprouts at the beginning and then they started to change. Bakery items are not as good. They use to have a food bar then COVID hit and that went away. They use to sell my absolute favorite corn chip thick cut then they stopped. Fruits and vegetables were inconsistent. Then they went no bags like Aldi but not at Aldi prices so I said bye 👋 ... It's been a few years since I've been back. It was apart of my Saturday shopping but now I'm sprout less!
ReplyDeleteIt's fine, but it's not that much better an option than most Publix or newer Kroger stores, especially compared to Whole Foods. I'd rather see another Fresh Market open since it expands on the Sprouts idea a little better as a boutique store.
ReplyDeleteI’d like to see more of Lowe’s foods from the Carolina’s. Regional grocers are where it’s at. If I’m looking for a farmers market store I’m not likely to go to a national chain, I’m gonna look for something locally owned. Not a big fan of sprouts.
ReplyDeleteYes! Lowe’s Foods
DeleteIt's OK. When they have meats and bulk items on sale it's usually a really good deal. But I don't shop there regularly.
ReplyDeleteThe only Sprouts near me is on Piedmont and Rock Springs. A traffic nightmare to get in and out of. The times I've been, I was not impressed.
