Mystery Buckhead Restaurant Revealed!

Thanks to all who participated in the inaugural edition of "Mystery Restaurant." The game was well received and judging from the response, will hopefully be repeated in the future. The mystery restaurant and location is revealed after the jump!

Athens-based Zaxby's Chicken, often found on trips to Florida or in the northern and southern suburbs of the ATL, is finally making a play for the intown crowd. While the chain can be found as far north as Indiana and as far west as Texas, only now are they expanding further inside metro Atlanta. Next to an existing McDonald's on Roswell Road, a new Zaxby's will start construction in the coming weeks with hopes of being open by year's end. Across from The Fresh Market and Goldberg's Bagels & Deli in a parcel that was most recently Ray's Emissions and Car Wash, this will be only the second Zaxby's inside the perimeter (ITP), the first being in Decatur on Memorial Drive, near Avondale. I had called Zaxby's franchising a few years back to suggest they take over what was then a vacant Burger King at Druid Hills and LaVista. While that never came to fruition, I'm happy that they have finally been able to come intown at 4380 Roswell Road. ToNeTo Atlanta

This will actually be the 2nd intown location that I know of. The 1st is in Avondale off memorial drive near Wal-Mart

I also think Zaxbys is opening on Peachtree Industrial in the parking lot of Lowes.

I'm confused. Was Zaxby's the mystery restaurant?

That was so not worth the hype that led up to it. Zaxby's?? Seriously? Who needs more fast food restaurants?

Hello All,

There is quite a bit here so I'll try and answer everything as best I can...

This location, while not far from Chastain Park, is within Buckhead as mapped by Sam Massell and the Buckhead Coalition.

Not all new restaurants, especially in Buckhead, can be gourmet or white tablecloth. I think the redelopment of that space, as anything, especially, a new building as a restaurant is good thing for the area. The main reason behind the game was that I was amazed property as close in as this parcel is, could be in such disarray.

Thanks again to all who participated and for the comments that followed.

Well said Eli...I guess some people only consider Buckhead as that big hole that Ben Carter created and Lenox Mall but it extends down Roswell Rd until it becomes Sandy Springs. All of those restaurants right there are still considered to be in Buckhead...NOT Chastain Park.

An excellent redevelopment!

I could not be more excited about Zaxby's coming to the hood...I fully plan on keeping them in business.

Speaking of Ben Carter, any updates on the Streets of Buckhead? I thought construction was supposed to start back up in July?

Hello Anon,

Sorry about the extended delay in a response to this question regarding S.O.B. Construction is said to be restarting again in the coming months but I'm not so sure. I have a few things I'm working on in regards to the development and should have more news in a few weeks.

Thanks for reading!

Please note that Memorial Dr is well south of Decatur. That area, like most of DeKalb County, is unincorporated. A Zaxby's in Decatur would likely not fare well, particularly with loyalists supporting the locally-involved Chick-fil-A (a rare example of a successful franchise operation in the City).

This is easily the best news I've read all year! I've been waiting for this day for a long long time. I've never understood why they were so hesitant about entering the metro Atlanta market. Buckhead will be a better place because of this Zaxbys.

That Zaxby's will dominate. The real loser is that Chick-Fil-A right there as Zaxby's will surely take a lot of their business. I'll take a Kickin Chicken Sandwich over a Chick-Fil-A Sandwich any day!
