Revered Roadhouse Ventures Further Intown

American Roadhouse will soon open its second Atlanta area location.  Having been an intown favorite for over 20 years on North Highland Avenue in Virginia-Highland, American Roadhouse's second
location will open at the Pencil Factory lofts on Decatur Street in downtown Atlanta.

There are already a number of other eateries in the loft project, including Caramba Cafe which opened there  last year after closing their Morningside location in 2010.

The Pencil Factory lofts house a number of students from nearby Georgia State University and are also located near the MLK MARTA station.

American Roadhouse also runs concession stands around Atlanta, one that I've patronized was at Chastain Park in Buckhead.  The restaurant does not provide the same cuisine as its namesake eatery at the stand, but does offer food a step above what some might expect to find at a park.

An Atlanta resident for my entire life, I have always been a fan of the American Roadhouse and definitely prefer it above the chainified Flying Biscuit Cafe or the less than impressive and over-hyped White House in Buckhead.

I'm told the restaurant hopes to open in "early spring."

What's your favorite breakfast spot in Atlanta?  Do you think local restaurants should stay small or franchise?  Where is the best hangover breakfast in the city?

this is great news- there are some great places taking the spaces and pencil factory.

Also- my favorite is hands down silver skillet. Love to food, servers, and environments. can't reproduce that.

I also enjoy west egg for breakfast (or ANY food for that matter) and Thumbs Up (but we'll see how that group goes as it franchises out)

Favorite breakfast places are Murphy's and Thumbs Up.

The most overhyped is Flying Biscuit.

I've tried them all and I find it really hard to beat Highland Bakery on N. Highland in O4W. The breakfast sandwiches on jalapeno focaccia are heavenly.

I have been going to the American Roadhouse for 20 years now. I have been to all the other places in Atlanta and prefer the Roadhoase without a doubt. They provide excellent service, great food, big portions, and I can't wait to try the new place in the Pencil Factory.
