Here and There

Cîroc Bar at RED
TREZA re-opens today in TOWN Brookhaven after a week-long "spring spruce up" that included what looks to be an exciting and much needed interior makeover.  If you check 'emout today, drop me a line or comment with your thoughts.

Mulberry Street Pizza in Vinings closed Sunday.  A reader wrote me to inform me of the closure and shared that he was sad to see them close as they served what he considered really good pizza.  The restaurant was located on Cobb Parkway across from the Kroger-anchored shopping center that previously housed TOMO and currently houses C&S Seafood.  The restaurant had reportedly been open about two and half or three years or so.

Irvine, California-based Yard House opened this past weekend at Atlantic Station in place of the shuttered Dolce Enoteca. I sampled the menu Saturday and thought it was neither amazing nor awful.  The huge selection of both draft and bottled beers is sure to be popular, but I question their location in Atlantic Station.  Yard House is definitely a step up from FOX Sports Grill  (which closed earlier this month at Atlantic Station)  but not a leap, just a baby step.

RED, the new restaurant from Levy Restaurants and Buckhead Life, debuted this past weekend during the Hawks v. Celtics game.  The lounge / restaurant was designed by the Johnson Studio and is definitely a cool addition to the Philips Arena experience.  The food was not as Buckhead Life-y as I was expecting / hoping for but is a nice option, as opposed to your typical stadium fare.  The Cîroc Bar is the centerpiece of the concept and provides an exciting environment in which to enjoy the game.

I stopped by Swit Bakery and Cafe on my way to RED and was thoroughly impressed.  The eatery has opened a few weeks ago in the Brickworks project (also home to Hop City Beer & Wine).  Not quite a West Egg "me too" bakery, there are some similarities but I think Swit has potential.  The pastries I had were tasty and I'm already planning a return trip for a sandwich.  Soon Mike Blum will open Yum Bunz across the street at the 935M apartments and Ford Fry will open The Optimist and Oyster Bar at The Optimist not far away on Howell Mill.

In case you missed it, Le Méridien will open in place of the former W Atlanta - Perimeter in Dunwoody.  The former W has been operating as a the Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites since being stripped of its W flag last year. Starwood Hotels & Resorts launched the W brand at this property in 1999 and will now bring Le Méridien to Atlanta in its place.  The hotel was sold in March and will undergo nearly $20 million in much needed renovations and upgrades before re-opening as  Le Méridien.  Starwood owns both the W and Le Méridien brands having started W and bought Le Méridien about six years ago.  The 275-room hotel will see the removal of its balconies and installation of floor to ceiling windows and the addition of a club lounge and club floors.  The luxury hotel chain is rather small worldwide with about 100 locations. When the Atlanta unit opens it will mark the 9th U.S. location for the chain, equaling the number in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

True to my word, I went to Treza for lunch today. The transformation is nice. It's bright, colorful, and busy! There were probably 20 people in there. The tvs are replaced by menu boards (what a concept!), there are no more self-bussing trashcans, which is a plus. There are wooly pockets with cactus type plants on some of the tables. Mysteriously, the wood pile has been moved from the side patio to front and center on the main patio. That's just weird. I've sent pix to your e-mail address.

I also had lunch recently at Swit and thought it was great. Cool atmosphere, very relaxing, and great menu.
