Golden Corral Finally OK With North DeKalb Mall

Raleigh, North Carolina-based Golden Corral  is coming to an outparcel of North DeKalb Mall. I'd love to say that after all this time that Costco, too , is opening, but alas, their plans remain tabled for the time being. Golden Corral will open in a portion of the parking lot directly behind the current
free-standing Chick-fil-A and former Checkers restaurant, nearest to Macy's.  At times, the space has been used to stage a traveling amusement park.

The North DeKalb location will be the chain's first ITP restaurant and 29th overall in the state.  I'm told they had sought to open another metro area location, but that the shopping center's owner did not want them in their center.  Golden Corral offers value-oriented buffet style dining.  Additionally the restaurant is very supportive of veterans and will provide its annual Military Appreciation Monday on November 12.

Though I've never actually been to a Golden Corral myself, I am tired of seeing their gimmicky commercials touting their Chocolate Wonderfall (launched last fall) and new cotton candy (added earlier this spring)

North DeKalb Mall, and the area around it, has been in decline for years, but has seen some signs of life recently. Marshalls opened in the mall in late 2010 and Zaxby's opened a new free standing restaurant just outside the mall, on North Druid Hills Road, earlier this month.  As I mentioned earlier, there is also still the hope that a Costco will come to the mall at some point. Additionally, there is also talk that the current triple drive-thru Chick-fil-A will be taken down, along with the adjacent former Checkers, and that a full service Chick-fil-A will be built in their place.

Both Golden Corral as well as North DeKalb Mall and its ownership Hendon properties were unavailable for comment but I'd expect the restaurant to open late this year.

Do you live in the area?  Do you wish the mall ( its owners) would do more to woo would be retailers and or restaurants to the mall?  Will you patronize Golden Corral?  Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Oh good, it'll give the gays in the area an alternative since they are so whiny about Chick-fil-A these days.

Gwinnett Place Mall saw the same revival of SURROUNDING new development (ex: Chipotle, Panda Express, Golden Corral, Sonic, and obviously all the new international offices and stores such as H-Mart and Assi) But the mall itself saw one new store, Mega Mart that is now looking to lease their top floor out and is working to diversify their second floor options rather than just clothing to include appliances and storage. It's starting to look like Bloomies in their final weeks. Doesn't matter whats around the mall, if the mall is poorly managed, it'll continue to decline.

If I lose my job I may go. I could eat enough for the whole day at lunch for $7.

They're probably settling in now to anticipate the crowds that will be driving up Lawrenceville Hwy to get to the new Walmart.

I love Golden Corral! I live 5 minutes from the North Dekalb area. I am tired of driving all the way to 78 for the only Golden Corral. If Golden Corral will be in the area, I would love it. When will it open?

I would live to see another Chik-Fil-A at the corner of N Druid and Lawrenceville Hwy. Yeah for GC as well.

Gross. I hate to see a Golden Corral coming to the area. Cheap and cheesy just like Walmart. The owners of North Dekalb mall have been plaque-like to an area that has great potential. Perfect for the Walmart, though.

You should be happy that any new business wants to open in the North Dekalb Mall area. You aren't gonna get high end businesses in that area.

That's good news for those of us who love Chik-Fil-A!! Why is it taking so long for Golden Corral to open?? Everytime I drive through the parking lot it doesn't look any closer to being completed. A Costco would be fantastic! I think N. DeKalb Mall needs to be under new management or something. Get rid of the cheap hoochy mama stores like Burlington and the other cheap crap stores inside the mall and put in some more upscale stores and restaurants in the food court. It is NOT safe to go to N. DeKalb Mall after dark. You put cheap stores in a mall and it will atract the wrong element.
