Meehan's Public House Comes ITP For New Eatery

101 Concepts hoping for the luck of the Irish near Decatur

101 Concepts is opening what will be their 5th Meehan's Public House in unincorporated Decatur in the former Maddy's on Scott Boulevard near North Decatur Road.  The restaurant space was once an Old Hickory House restaurant and earlier this year was slated to become a new rib concept from the fellas at Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q.  The restaurant space is also across the street from Suburban Plaza, where last year I broke news of a planned Walmart that has since enraged the neighborhood.

After announcing the rib concept this past April, the Brothers Fox announced they would nix the planned eatery and were actively seeking a new location, going as far as to suggest they were looking at sites in Buckhead.  No word on when or if anything will come to fruition.

Over the years, the four partners that make up 101 Concepts have developed a number of concepts, easily the most successful being Meehan's Public House.  Previous 101 Concepts have included a Food 101 in Morningside, now home to Rosebud, and an Italian eatery, Mangia 101, in Brookhaven.  Another Meehan's was once in Alpharetta but was too big to do well on days other than March 17th.

Currently there are Meehan's restaurants in Vinings and Sandy Springs, along with more recent openings downtown and in Atlantic Station.  The  new  location will be Meehan's only freestanding restaurant.  Other current 101 Concepts include Food 101 and Cibo E Beve, both on Roswell Road across from Fountain Oaks Shopping Center.

It would seem as though Meehan's is to 101 Concepts as Noche is to Here To Serve Restaurants, each the growth vehicle for their respective restaurant group.

The hope is to have Meehan's new location open to celebrate St. Patrick's Day but that may be a lofty goal.

The Mangia 101 in Brookhaven became a Meehans before being sold to Rob Adamo who turned it into the current Pub71.

One might note the location is across the intersection from Melton's App and Tap. There are also two Irish-style bars in Decatur -- the Marley on Ponce and Mac Magee's on the Square. (We love Mac Magee's.)

Too bad they aren't locating somewhere near the Square. Looove Mac Magee's and The Marley. There is nothing like pub hopping in downtown Decatur! My spouse and I get together with friends a couple of times a month. Its almost like being in Europe! If only the Square had a nice waterfall statue! :-)
